The FBI has uncovered what officials consider a serious plot by jihadists to bomb the Holland Tunnel in hopes of causing a torrent of water to deluge lower Manhattan, the Daily News has learned.

The terrorists sought to drown the Financial District as New Orleans was by Hurricane Katrina, sources said. They also wanted to attack subways and other tunnels.

Counterterrorism officials are alarmed by the "lone wolf" terror plot because they allegedly got a pledge of financial and tactical support from Jordanian associates of top terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi before he was killed in Iraq, a counterterrorism source told The News.

It's not clear, however, if any cash or assistance was delivered.

The News has learned that at the request of U.S. officials, authorities in Beirut arrested one of the alleged conspirators, identified as Amir Andalousli, in recent months. Agents were scrambling yesterday to try to nab other suspects, sources said.

[...]

The plotters wanted to detonate a massive amount of explosives inside the Holland Tunnel to blast a hole that would destroy the tunnel, everyone in it, and send a devastating flood shooting through the streets of lower Manhattan.

[...]

The FBI discovered the plot by monitoring Internet chat rooms, where the aspiring terrorists discussed striking the U.S. economy, rather than causing mass casualties, a source said.

Fun stuff. It must suck to live a life of hatred and violence and in the end burn in hell for eternity. Can't say I'd choose to go that route.

Coincidence that this "BREAKING NEWS" was released on the anniversary of the London bombings?

Authorities thwarted a "terror attack" that was in the PLANNING STAGES (which, if you know anything about terrorism, or if you paid attention to the story, you would've seen that this plan was YEARS away from happening, nearly impossible to actually execute, and the "key player" in the story was blogging on an "extremist" website in BEIRUT.) That doesn't add up to "BREAKING NEWS" to me. However, it does take away from other stories... stories like:

Gas is over $3/Gallon

Several more bombs went off in Iraq last night

Resistance to the Coalition is building in Afghanistan

Israel is occupying Gaza (AGAIN!)

But hey, who cares, we "thwarted" yet another "terror attack" on NY-NJ. I'm glad we did, but something like this is about as significant as a mom flipping out becuase her daughter dropped an F-bomb on MySpace but didn't catch her sneaking in the window last night after having (unprotected) sex with her boyfriend.

This is not "BREAKING NEWS!!!" This is something that should be, in the grand scheme of things, so minimal that we shouldn't even hear about it.

Are they going to use pumps to flood Manhattan? Cuz water doesn't like to go up. I studied fluid dynamics in the Navy.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Yes very good insight slim, somehow in all the fervor over this in the planning stages to attack the tunnel I totally forgot that gas is over $3 per gallon, even though I fill up like every other day--and there is a sign in front of every gas station in the World that has the price per gallon in Arial 1,000,000 pts Font. And bombs in Iraq are how they keep time over there, as church bells are silent and illegal--since any religion besides the two sects of Islam are illegal, And resistance to the coalition in Afghanistan is building--by what measure are you using—oh but what someone told you in the break room at work today? Or did you actually go to Afghanistan and run a poll with all the various factions and remnant Tailban and Al Qada. And Gaza is occupied again--hmmm, guess seeing that as the top story almost everyday on CNN.COM and the various post by Wife Of Muhammad in OT remind us of this fact, still it slipped my mind--just had no idea that Gaza was in any kind of turmoil. Yeah slim really good insight—definitely this terror plot is a media produced trumped up charge by the Police in Lebanon, Jordan and by the FBI to Wag-the-Dog. Oh but wait, you forgot one critical problem--you must have a fooled media and something of a lesser significance controlling something of a larger significance in order to actually fit the metaphor of the tail wagging the dog. Gee I can certainly see where blowing up the Holland tunnel in order to drown New York is greater significance than all the other problems you mentioned. I almost didn't pay $3 per gallon of gas today--because I thought about how much better it would be to buy life vest and fill up my motorboat instead--with all the impending doom from the Jihadist Tidal Wave.

And just think had we stopped 911 in the planning stages--gee, with your logic we should do like Hollywood movies and always stop the bombers plot with 1 second left on the ticking time bomb. Yeah stop them now while it’s still on the drawing board--rather than later when they are on a board at the county morgue. Anyway keep up the good insight slim.
