I am wanting to send some money down to my fiance. My bank charges alot for a transaction fee. Someone here had mentioned Custom House out of Vancover. How can they offer these services for free. I am a little nervous to provide my identification and bank information until I know that someone has used their services and not been taken advantage of.

Thanks for any help

Used it without incident or fees.. it's a bit of work & time to get it set up but it works flawlessly for me! AND it's only EFT that is free.. if you want to wire money quickly.. there are fees. :)

Been using since 2005 and never had 1 problem! Staff is great and based out of Victoria BC! They have recently been boughten out by Western Union, but havent noticed any changes yet! Highly recommend them!! Have transferred small amounts of $$$ and fairly large amounts of $$ and not a single hiccup!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

So I was going to sign up for an account here today, but I was wondering something. I will want to transfer money from my Canadian account down to my US one (from EI) - so when I sign up, should I still say I'm in the US? because I don't need to transfer money back to Canada?

Or am I able to transfer money both ways between the accounts? (does my question make sense lol?)

you can exchange $$$ both ways, but its an extra step I believe!! When I first signed up, I was transferring $$ from Canada to the USA! later on, I wanted to send $$ to my Cdn acct, I believe I just called them up on the phone and we sorted it out.

can someone tell me how it works if i dont have an american bank account? all i need it for is sending money back to my canadian account so i can pay some existing bills. and since I dont have my SSN yet, i cant get a back account or get on my husband's account.

i have been using money order and sending it to a family member to deposit in my account which only cost me .50 cents + postage. it takes 2 days for mailing system.

Wondering if there's a faster way with custom house?

You need an american bank account, you could use ur husbands, just need his banking information I would think. or try another bank to set up ur own account. I opened one with Wachovia, and they didn't require that I have a SSN!!

To confirm that you can just use ur husbands acct (even though ur not on it) just call up customhouse, they are extremely friendly/professional!! They are out of Victoria BC!
