i heard that its a bit harder to get a DL in CA for non-us-residents. Some states making it easy. Go have a vacation in Washington DC and get ur licence in a blink. They dont even require u to have SSN. I am not sure about other states, you can check the requirements of DMV's on the website and see which one is most appealing to you. I have a friend that traveled to DC from CA for this particular reason. She has a DC- DL now and is Happy ! :innocent:

GOOD LUCK

This is very bad advice. You can't just get a license in any state and drive with it forever in any state you want to reside in. If you are gong to be living in California, you will need a California Driver's license. If you get or have a license from another state and move to Calfornia you are required to obtain a California Driver's lcense within a certain time frame... don't remember the amount of tme you have to do it n but I think it is 3 months or something after moving into the State if you have one from another state.

If you are stopped by the police and you tell them your residence is in Caifornia but they see that you have an out of state license the next question will be when did you begin residing here.........if it is longer than the allowed timeframe for you to be in Cali without a Cali license you will get a fine.

I'll wait if I were in your shoes. Yes, the expiration will based on your I-94. My old license was based on my EAD expiration date and then I apply for renewal when I got my green card. You can use your old Philippine Driver's License while waiting for your EAD or your green card

That's true!! I wonder why people such this give this  advice..

you have to wait for you EAD to arrive before you can get a driving test.. You may want to get a book/manual to get ready for the test.

Good Luck!!!

i applied for DL in DMV CA but it's been 2 months and i still don't have it.

i called to ask DMV office about it and told me that the card production was on hold since my I-94 is not valid anymore.

they will deliver the card as soon as they receive a go signal from INS.

i already have my EAD card, but still they won't give me the DL

In order for you to get a driving permit you need to pass the written exam. To get the written exam you need to fill out and submit form DL something (DL-44 i think). When you submit the form you will be asked for proof of authorized stay which in your case is your I-94 that expires in august. It should be at least valid for 2 months for them to process your application. Assuming they process your application, expiry will still be based on I-94.

If you have a philippine drivers license you can drive using it but if you get pulled over for a violation dont tell the cop you live here coz if u do, he'll tell u that u are no longer a visitor in CA and give u a ticket for driving without valid license.

Having said all that, i would still suggest that u dont drive til u get ur CA DL using ur EAD. U dont have to take driving test if u have a philippine DL.

Probably true, Vermont is the same way. However, if you file for AOS and bring your I-797C Vermont will issue a license which is good for two years. Another reason to get the AOS filed quickly
