Ok, the NVC has *finally* gotten my case and assigned a case # (MNLxxxx). I have a few questions on the next steps for a K1 in the Philippines.

First, what is needed for me to call and get an interview scheduled? Is it just a matter of giving it a few days for the case to be received by the US Embassy in Manila? Is there any way to know when I can call? Or do I need to fill in a DS-230? From the US Embassy web site, it seems I don't need this.

Second, with regard to proof for the I-134, do I need to provide W-2's for the last 3 tax years? I only have the last 2 years (the year before that I worked in Japan and did NOT receive a W-2 or even a year end earnings statement). I will provide the last 3 years tax transcripts, plus my last 2 years W-2s.

Third, for my letter of employment, does it matter if it is 3 or 4 months old (I will be attaching my payslips since then)?

Thanks in advance!

Dave

I think the USEM will let you know when is your schedule for interview. you can call the USEM anytime you want to follow up your case.

Umm....there is NO useful info there. I have been all over that, as well as the USEM site and NVC site. Yes, I know I can wait until the USEM feels like scheduling an interview, or maybe I can influence their scheduling. They provide a phone number to call for this, but there is no clear definition of when you can call it. I believe you can call as soon as they do their initial processing, rather than wait 2-3 weeks until a letter gets mailed and delivered.

Well, actually, that may be true for the IR1/CR1, but I have filed a K1. I understand that for a K1, the US Embassy sets the Interview Date. Also, I believe that the DS-230 is only for a spousal visa (K3/IR1/CR1) but I am not sure of this.

I have already spoken to the NVC, and from their perspective, they seemed to be done with the case (assuming they actually *did* send it on as they said they would be when I called earlier today).

Does anyone know if the DS-230 needs to be filed for the K1 and if I need to complete any part of it??

Once the embassy receives your case, they will send you a letter informing you that you are eligible to schedule an interview. Then, that's the time you can call them and schedule for an interview. The NVC has nothing to do with your schedule. You can choose your most convenient time. You may want to postpone it when you want to. Once you receive your interview date, the embassy will send you a letter to your email about your scheduled interview, once you get it, you can go to your medical with the letter from NVC and the schedule (printed). You have to wait about 3 weeks before they can send you a letter after NVC sends your case to the consulate. Hope that helps.

DS-230 is for immigrant and you only have to fill out DS156 and 157 and bring them to the interview.

You do NOT have to wait for the letter from the embassy. Once you know that your file has left the NVC you can begin calling the embassy to ask when you can schedule the interview. Then the easiest way is for the USC to call the number to obtain the PIN and schedule the interview. My fiancee never received the letter from the embassy because we had scheduled our interview before it was even sent out.

Ok, the NVC has *finally* gotten my case and assigned a case # (MNLxxxx). I have a few questions on the next steps for a K1 in the Philippines.

Hi Dave! I will try my best to answer this based on my experience out of bugging the NVC and US embassy duting my K1 process. LOL

First, what is needed for me to call and get an interview scheduled? Is it just a matter of giving it a few days for the case to be received by the US Embassy in Manila? Is there any way to know when I can call? Or do I need to fill in a DS-230? From the US Embassy web site, it seems I don't need this.

The moment the NVC assigns a case number for your petition and visa process, allow them about 2 weeks max to send a notice to the USEM in Manila. The USEM in Manila will then send the K1 fiance/e a written notice that they have received the case and advise him/her that she/he is now ready to go for medical at St. Lukes and schedule an interview date at the USEM via the call center.

Now, in my case, I decided not to wait for the letter from the USEM. I went ahead and allowed about 3 business days after calling the NVC to pass by and then went ahead and called the USEM call center and asked them if they have received my case and quoted my MNLxxx number. Over the phone, the call center rep can confirm if they now have your case on file. In my case, they did - So I went ahead and set an interview date at the USEM. Medical at St. Luke's Ext Clinic are walk-ins for the K1 Visa process so it was not a big deal for me - that part does not need to be scheduled.

DS-230 is not needed for the K1 process.

The embassy interview only rquires the last year's W2 or 1040. However, you may overdeliver just to be safe.

Third, for my letter of employment, does it matter if it is 3 or 4 months old (I will be attaching my payslips since then)?

You may have to attach the pay stubs if you want since it has not been a year snce you got your present job, I suppose.

Thanks in advance!

Dave

PM me if you want to hear about the experiences while processing. I am the K1 fiancee and it may help you and your lady.

God bless and good luck!
