God, I hope not! Except for maybe you krikit because, well... you ARE awesome!

The worst part, although its kinda funny, is that weeks after they had separated his boss and co workers through him a congratulations party with a cake and gifts and all. He was SO embarrassed since they didn't know what was going on...he is a private person and I think that's how things should be at work. But he was SUPER embarrassed. haha

Whoopsies! Awwwww. Poor guy. But I thought you were saying they threw him a congratulations party for the divorce..... not for the marriage.

At least they didn't have kids. Yeah, I know they didn't stay married long enough for that (as if that really matters anymore...), but if they did have kids, she'd try to rob him blind with child support.

Actually, I just found this out...a month ago or so they were talking about he said he would consider getting back together with her if she met a few conditions.. (he's crazy but what can you do..) and one of them was getting off of stuff like facebook and myspace where she torments us! She said NO!

She never wanted to be married to him in the first place. There is just no love there.

Sounds like she was more in-love with the concept of marriage and all the accoutrements and simply transferred those emotions onto whomever she was dating at the time. I imagine her father has to be furious with her after spending all that money on the wedding and then leaving after such a short period. That might actually be part of her motivation for going after his assets. At least with such a short marriage, she has no grounds to request alimony. I know it is like winning a door prize, but it will be better in the long run, even if he has to pay through the nose at first. At least she won't have him by his balls on alimony every month until she finds a sucker to marry her.

Hmmmm predicted a divorce earlier in the thread but I had no idea it would only take 2 weeks. Lucky guy for getting out of it now. A little financial damage is the least of his concerns. I would feel even worse if he had to endure a year + of that woman.

I think regarding the assets in this marriage, she's screwed.

according to An Overview of Equitable Distribution in NJ

"New Jersey is an equitable distribution state which means that, in the event of a divorce, the marital property is not automatically split 50-50. Rather, equitable distribution is defined as the division of marital assets in a manner that is fair but not necessarily equal.

New Jersey courts have developed a three step process to distribute assets. First, the court will identify which assets are subject to distribution. Assets included in an equitable distribution may range from the marital home, a business, bank accounts and automobiles to stock options, pensions, bonuses and lottery winnings. Generally, courts have defined marital property to be property acquired by either or both spouses from the date of marriage to the filing of the divorce.

I think a judge is going to laugh at her for asking for so much in just 2 weeks of marriage.

First off...I hope you can bring character witnesses to this, as I'm sure there will be people lined up out the court doors to defend your BIL.

That's good to read, J&K. I was hoping the law would be like that. His condo was acquired by him when they were still dating and she only lived there for a total of 12 days. Shes not on the mortgage, the deed, etc. Also, SHE left! It was her decision to leave. He didn't ask her to leave, demand her to leave, etc. So I don't see what judge would grant her anything based upon those circumstances.

Rob, you are right in saying that most of this is probably being sought by her parents, not necessarily her. They paid for most of the wedding. But the joke is on them because this has nothing to do with her mother or father, it has to do with their daughter. Chris has physical bills he can show for the thousands of dollars he spent on stuff with his own credit and his own bank accounts. She has zilch. She didn't pay for a thing so she can't claim she wants anything back in a sense.

She actually told him a few weeks ago that if they got back together she would be "polite" to us. I wouldn't give her a chance in hell to be polite. If I ever see her again, I will be using the "c" word. It will not be pretty. I was polite and civil through it all. I never once verbally said anything to her. At this point though, we have NOTHING to say to her but very, very harsh things that would make her very upset. So I hope we don't have to see her ever again.

I think it will be a hard next 6 months or so for my BIL. But after he gets rid of her, GOOD riddance. He will be so much better off.
