wow Amanda. I'm very sorry to hear that...for your BIL. I had been hoping that if they did stay together she would revert to what he remembered. I am glad that its over now though and while he may be crushed I am praying that he heals and learns from this. Its so much better to have gotten out now than to live a life like that. At least he has you guys for an awesome support system. I wish him all the best.

Thanks, Danu. That's very kind of you to say that. We will pull him back up to where he needs to be and he will get there. He's got a lot to offer someone.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Wow I can't believe she just packed up her things and left. That just shows that she probably has no idea how difficult a marriage really is and how much effort and dedication goes into making it work. I hope you b-in-law is okay and he gets through this. Sounds like his family will be there for him and that will help a lot. He's lucky to have such a caring family.

I really hope she doesn't come crawling back. Seems like she is the type that might try.

She better not and I hope he doesn't allow it!

She's better off with her family, any ways. She hardly spent any time with Chris in their new place, even though they have had it for about 5 months. When I said she packed up her stuff, I don't think she had much in there to begin with to be honest.

:o Holy smokes.... that's insane. I know this is a trivial thing in the big picture, but I wonder if they'll return the wedding gifts and stuff or send thank you cards?

He's lucky to have such a supportive SIL and brother, some families might say "I told you so" or chastise him but it sounds like his family is super supportive!!

I know! I was thinking "Hope you didn't give him that card yet, Treble!"

If I'd been a guest at that wedding and gave say, $200 cash as a gift, I might be ticked if they kept it and split up only a few weeks after the wedding  but of course what's most important is his emotional well being and I'm sure the gift thing is at the back of his mind, if at all!

As long as Chris is in possession of the money, he will send it all back. He's not that kind of guy you know? We are talking about...probably $35,000-$40,000 they made off the wedding so to keep that would be in poor taste. However, I'm sure L. will say that he owes that to her after he parents spent 100K on the wedding.

And no, we never ended up cutting them a check! I spent that money! haah

But on a more serious note, at least he got out sooner rather than later. It could have been the case of, ''let's hold on for 2 or 5 or 10 years to see if it changes'' and then it doesn't and thankfully he has an amazing family who will help him pick up from where he left off. I pray that she does not come crawling back. He'll come out stronger because of this. Good luck to your BIL, yourself and your family. :)

Well wedding ettiquette says that if you divorce 1 year of less after marriage you are supposed to give all the gifts back, including any engagement gifts.

If she asks for the money, she's delusional!!

This got me thinking, if she wanted the big wedding but not the actually, marriage then why didn't she go out and buy a Nintendo DS and a copy of the game, Imagine Wedding Planner. It would have saved thousands in funds, I'm sure...

Okay, now I'm just being cynical. My apologies!
