my mom and sister are great at sending me packages too. they have to list the contents on the front of the box and the guy at the post office always asks me what everything is. LOL he really wants to try a caramilk bar and mint aero bar. i'll be giving him one out of my next package. :P

they have the best timing too...the packages usually show up by suprise just when i'm feeling rather homesick. i guess they can tell by my emails and voice that i'm missing them loads.

This is bumping an old thread here, but .... My biggest worry is where I'm gonna Branstons Pickle when Im in Mississippi?! Anyone have any ideas? Ive not even had my interview yet and Im more worried about what my future holds in regards to sandwich fillings!

But can anyone put my mind at reast?

You can get Branston in lots of supermarkets in their International aisle.

Trader Joes has crumpets and generally good food although not typically British. And like others here, get your friends and family to send stuff or buy from the online places. Make sure you pack some in your case when you come over to get you started though!

I got a Christmas package yesterday from my Mum. Made me cry. Crying cos it made me homesick but she didn't put any chocolate in it. :o:help: Just as well I'm going back again soon.

Our local Kroger is now carrying crumpets in the cheese section. We have yet to buy any so not sure how good they are or aren't. For cheese we are buying strong cheddars, and recently an Irish cheddar that was very good. For chocolates we only buy Lindt truffles, because I am as spoiled on decent chocolate as he is and this is the best white chocolate we have found so far here locally.

Either my hubby really doesn't miss the stuff from home and I am as good a cook as he claims, or he just is not a complainer and makes do with what he has. He has yet to want or really seem to miss anything. It is more me wanting things I had while in the UK.

I know this is a really old post, but for anyone coming over who wants a good cup of tea, I have to agree with Huffy....Craig has been drinking the Tetley British Blend for ages now and he loves it...and he is a HUGEEEE tea drinker..couldn't live without it. In fact, when he went back for a visit, he said he actually kinda missed the Tetley! :P So..must be a good substitute, at least. M.

Tetley is the best tea  I only saw that British Blend at my grocery store but last time we were in Canada I bought a big box of Tetley tea and of course they are the round bags

Mr Kipling Cherry Bakewells are something Im worrying about the lack of,

along with salad cream and pot noodles.

Luckily, its all available online, but at those prices, I guess Ill have to get out

of the habit, of smothering EVERYTHING in salad cream and doing 6 cherry bakewells in 15 minutes

with a pot of Tea,

I can also get quite unbearable with the absence of French Stick smothered in Liver pate...

Ok, Im off to the kitchen now.....

As a Dutch boy, I can say that the thing I will miss most are two things.

1. Pepersauce (It's Dutch, no you do not know something similar.)

2. Likrish (I repeat, I am Dutch. We are those strange people who like to eat that black stuff that is said to taste like earwax.... who in the world eats his earwax?!)

What Gary complains of missing most from back home is proper fish and chips, soda farls, sausage rolls, yorkie puddings and the chocolate. We are able to get his devon custard, digestives, beans in tomato sauce at a local market in the international aisle. Plus his mom does send care packages over of chocolate thank god  cause i love it as much as he does, plus other goodies.

World Market is great for buying British Goodies.

I always stock up on Salad Cream, HP Sauce, Jacobs Crackers, marmite and other stuff when I go there, costs a small fortune but is certainly worth it.

I went there few weeks back and bought a Cadburys Selection Box, mmmmmmmmm don't ya just love chocolate.

Kroger's International selection is not too bad, I got some Crosse and Blackwell Pickle, (not as good as Branston) but you get used to the taste by the last spoonful lol. I also found some Haywards Pickled Onions.

I just bought a tin of cadbury's biscuits from Target.

Check they are made in the UK! If the tin says "Baked in the UK", it means that the biscuit is cooked there but then they are covered in US Cadbury's chocolate for the US market. :( They are #######! We bought some to try and they definitely were not the same. Nasty yucky chocolate. I gave them away, they were so nasty. If the tin says "Manufactured in the UK" and with no ingredients list for the US, you're all set.

UGH you must have developed an American taste for chocolate. ;):o

If you have the box with the square biscuit with the Cadbury C on it, you can't honestly tell me it tastes like Cadbury's?

Enjoy anyway. :)

Maybe phsycologically I think they taste good because they say Baked in the UK....I can honestly say that they are good but I do agree that the Cadbury chocolate bars over here are bad.

And as for that cuppa? Check out your near by grocery stores for Tetley's British Blend, I'm drinking a cup of it right now. Not quite as good as the real stuff, but pretty close. My family brought me a bag of 280 when they came over for the wedding, so I'm pretty much set, but I like to save it for when I want to treat myself. :)

This is sold in regular grocery stores in California, you should have to pace yourself on using it.
