:) So happy.

So today in the mail I received a much awaited care package from my family (well, mostly compiled by my mum and sister, and then mailed by my dad). It was so sweet of them. They sent me Krackawheat, little Marmite portions, Malteaser hot chocolate sachets, Aromat seasoning, Tutti Fruitti sweets, Jelly Tots, my favourite soup sachets and Hula Hoops. Real crisps!

What do you guys miss most that you can't get over here in the regular grocery stores? And what nice packages have your family sent you?

That's really weird, did your SOs Mum do that to reduce the weight of the package? Or was it customs?

I have a few solutions for you, Lizzy. I can't really suggest to you an alternative to sausages, as I'm still searching myself. But for cheese, you should try CostCo. They have Cheddar made in Devon, they have some Irish cheeses, a few types of Stilton and a few continential cheeses.

You should see if you can find a British food store somewhere near you, they would be sure to have Cadbury's and Galaxy. It might be worth you checking out if you have a fish and chip restuarant in the surrounding area also. I've found we have a few in Salt Lake City, not the same as back home (they BATTER the CHIPS, #######!!??), but it's better than nothing.

I'd also suggest a bakery for bread sometimes, if you can. Or making your own. I think I've found that French Pan bread tastes most like British bread.

And as for that cuppa? Check out your near by grocery stores for Tetley's British Blend, I'm drinking a cup of it right now. Not quite as good as the real stuff, but pretty close. My family brought me a bag of 280 when they came over for the wedding, so I'm pretty much set, but I like to save it for when I want to treat myself. :)

Bacon is another stiffling point, along with the Clothes shops, no suggestions there. But hey, at least they're cheaper here. :)

Try finding a local World Market, Whole Foods and even Kroger, they do a selection of International dishes etc.

I get Salad Cream and HP Sauce from World Market, they also do a range of biscuits and chocolates (imported from the UK)

If you just like normal cheddar cheese, Wal-mart actually do a decent cheddar I think its Cabot's or Vermont Cheddar its labelled "Strong" but not as strong/mature as the good stuff in the UK.

Hope this helps some of your cravings and things you miss from back home.

Try Twinnings Breakfast tea for a decent cuppa, I haven't had any tea for months Hubby has got me addicted to perc. coffee lol

Thanks Maureen.

Her mom didn't know. Some of the items containd "pork products" in them, along with some "galangal" roots. Hawaii is VERY ####### about letting ANY produce into the state, and the meat products just weren't allowed for various reasons.

:( :( :(

At least they put a letter in the package saying what items were removed and why. What sucks is her mom spent a lot of money buying that stuff and shipping it!!!

That's cool that your parents sent things via your friends. :) It really is a nice feeling to even know that someone back home is thinking of you, let alone that they thought of getting you a whole bunch of things that you loved back home. :)

Donna,

Try World Market and Kroger, you can get everything you mentioned (cept N.o.t.World) in those stores. Even Jacobs Cream Crackers. May save some expense in getting it sent to you.
