A lot of it has to do with the society of victims that this government system has created. A society where people do not want to take responsibility for their actions, and instead are waiting for the chance to blame somebody else and sue for the most stupid reason. As a result the government creates more stupid laws to give people more reasons to be victims. It is a never-ending spiral.

People have to entertain themselves somehow ...

The answer is a lot simpler than that. As Slim has so aptly pointed out, "a person is smart. People are stupid." A single person wouldn't usually tolerate or participate in the kind of ####### that happens in the 'burbs. But put them all together and you get a tribal mentality that makes Lord of the Flies look like Roberts Rules of Order.

I guess I have always moved around too much to be a voted off the island If I look back through the mists of time to marraige #1, I recall that in my blue collar neighborhood, my ex always got along famously with the neighbors. I barely spoke to them, and definitely didn't care what they were thinking or doing. Probably why she is still there with them, and I am sitting here in Ukraine with a much younger woman, enjoying life way more than I have a right to do Everything happens for a reason.

Right. They were reasonably polite, but a little tense until they saw what it was. I think they needed me to open the bag in case it was booby-trapped or something. When I unsipped the suitcase, the militsia actuall back away a few feet. Funny, because four pounds of plastique would probably blown the walls out of the terminal anyway. They all had a laugh at the expense of the customs agent on the scanner when I held up the pipes.

I remember being in the Air Force and checking "suspicious packages" that were left somewhere or were enclosed in boxes or something and nobody knew what they were. What I never could understand was why people would act all worried about it... but then stay close enough to see what it was. It was like Pandora herself left that box there for them.

AF regualtions actually call for HUGE clear zones around unattended or suspicious packages, but usually, what would happen was the lowest ranking guy bit the bullet and opened the box up to reveal something very funny for the rest of us.

People do back up when "possibly" encountering explosives. Or they'll kind of hide their face behind their hands or something. Explosives are funny though and sometimes something as small as a hand will save your face. But, then again, that hand may be the thing that gets blown through your head and kills you.

Brad, you may remember the POW search where you roll the POW over and use his body to shield you just in case there's a grenade or something under him. If he rolls over and there's no boom, your buddy checks under him... but only after there's no boom! What really sucks is todays enemy combatants (or whatever the hell they're called at the time) have no problem just creating a big enough boom to kill themselves and everyone around them, no tricks involved. They've taken all the honor out of it. Bastards.

Anyway, best bet when dealing with explosives or possible explosives is to stay as far away as possible and outside that clear zone.... and to use your buddy as a sheild!

But I feel better. I was always a little leery of security at Odessa. When they bring your luggage piled on the farm wagon and release the three cocker spaniels to run all over the pile of bags sniffing them out, I never knew if they were looking for drugs and bombs...or for a place to pee. I always hoped they didn't pee on my bag. Good to see they are preventing terrorism...you desparado, you!
