Your fiance(e) might have an interest in having a copy of your I-129f submission to know what information you provided

grismar,

That FAQ appears to be out of date. The process that you describe, of sending in the visa application prior to the consulate receiving the approved petition, was called opening a provisional file. It was acceptable practice at some (many?) consulates but was ordered discontinued by Powell several years ago.

Yodrak

I had no idea! How irresponsible of them! And how irresponsible of the USCIS employee who told me to ask.

Geez what to believe? the flowchart for K1 on this very site says forward everything you have gathered so far NOAs, Apps, and send the originals to your fiance. Why? the Embassy gets a copy in its package why send it all again. I can see sending a few key things but..

Gomez,

The flowchart and other tips here are written from the *most conservative* viewpoint. Since every Consulate is different in their procedures, expectations and 'must haves', it's better to just put the most complete ideas out there.

I've always operated under this rule: Anything I submit a photocopy of, I am prepared to show the original at the interview. This has worked out OK so far.

The NOA2 thing never made sense to me either, but apparently someone had a problem with it at one time and now recommends it.

I think the thought behind sending the interviewing fiance/spouse everything plus the kitchen sink is simply to offer them everything they *could* need to be successful. You want your loved one to go into that interview full of confidence that they know the process, they know you and they know what they need to do + have the tools to pull it off. Based on my experiences, that's so for me. I can't stand it that my fella is going in for his final final interview without me, but in a way, it's perfect that he now make this transition to USC all on his own.

You always have the option to send as little or as much as you like --it's YOUR case-- but all of these items should be in a folder on your desk already--not hard to get them together for a little peace of mind. :)

PS: no guarantee that the Consulate didn't lose something on the way, or that they've "misplaced it" and put pressure on the interviewee. If s/he can pull the original out of their pocket, well, it's only good.

meauxna,

Might be a relic from the time when some consulates would open a provisional file if shown that an approved petition was on the way?

Brilliant thought, Yodrak. You were around then; you're better qualified than I to say so (but I *did* try to pull the 'provisional file' tactic after reading the term at avum-b!).

If it matters enough to anyone here to correct the Flowchart, that would be a point to investigate.
