Defaulted loan - FBI check

Debt is not a crime and not paying back debts or defaulting on them has no relevance to the FBI check, dont worry, you are fine.

But what about the person of good moral, could defaulting on a loan be construde as such?

No...you are not moral if you borrow money with no intent of repaying. What you would be is a deadbeat.

Being a deadbeat is not a crime, but you have to live with yourself.

Hold on a minute! Thats a bit harsh to say that. Most people borrow money with every intention of paying it off, but circumstances and life sometimes change! I had a loan and a credit card which I left unpaid back in the UK and when I took them out 2-3 years ago I had every intention of paying it off, and which I did so on a monthly basis up until I moved to the USA. I didnt know back then that I was gonna meet my future husband and he happened to live in another country. The US government doesnt make it easy either to pay off debts from other countries when you move here and are not even allowed to work for months on end! Being moral and having good morals doesnt come into it im afraid, do you think the credit card companies have good morals when they charge you $30 for paying a few days late?!?

come on now. since when stops our gov. you from paying of your credit card???

why are you blaming others for your failure? take responsibility for your action.

your immigration process is about you, and about your morals, not about credit card comp.

What I was saying was I havent worked for 6 months because of the US government so even if I wanted to pay off my debts in the UK and I had the 'morals' to do so, I wouldnt be able to anyway cause I dont have no money, no cash, no dollar ... you get me?!?

But hey, being a person of absolutely no morals anyway :innocent: and because I can get away with not paying of my debts in the UK I aint going to whether you like it or not!

If you default on a uk loan or credit card and it goes on your record, or even court (I dont know how those things work), can you be denied citizenship because of the FBI check or 'moral person' requirement?

Instead of defaulting on the loan..why not contact an American bankruptcy attorney and file a chapter 7 or 13 on your debt?...........I ended up in financial hardship when I first came here as I was without a job for 5 months...waiting for work authorization and couldn't pay any of my Canadian debt.....On the advice of an attorney, I was able to file a chapter 7 from here in the U.S....and start fresh...Not something I wanted to do but I had no other choice.......The interesting thing is that now I get loan offers in the mail a few times a week from car dealers in the area that know I filed bankruptcy.....This is America!!

I am sure that a U.S attorney can help you..even if your debt is outside of the U.S.....They did for me.

Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."

US Citizenship only involves commiting crimes of moral turpitude. Not paying one's debts is not a criminal matter, but a contractual one.
