So, let me get this straight; the only issue here is that the victims had no insurance? The fact that a family was attacked by a mob of sub-human, racist a$holes is just inconsequential and ho-hum??

they were guilty of being white.

Yes they were, where is the public/VJ outcry.

If you noticed, there was outcry from the start. Not much can be said for others that play the race wasn't a factor card when indeed it was.

I want more of a outcry

It's not blame the victim. No, violence is never good, but to blow this up into a black vs. white thing doesn't seem to make that much sense either. I'm sorry that the guy is hurt, but what makes this news? People get hurt all the time. The other half of this story is glaringly absent.

Hard to have another half of the story when they ran, innocent people run didnt you know or maybe they knew they wouldnt get a fair shake in whitey judical system so they ran. That said police are looking for suspects and the fact they havent called this a hate crime should make you feel good. I think what gets people is not the black vs white thing but the double standard, had this been switched we would of had Sharpton and his cronies making a huge issue out of this.

Two wrongs do not make right.

I don't think they are innocent. I think they are very guilty of some sort of assault, and I hope true justice is served. My question is is it really racially motivated or The dude was a 5 star jerk motivated? Hopefully other people around there think about that question before "getting up in arms" about it.

Fair enough and I would like to add the people have been asking that question here at VJ and in the police department. I just hope to god they dont try to downplay it if it was, me be very mad if they do.

Indeed. If it was a hate crime, I assume it shall be charged as such. For it to be a hate crime, certain criteria are met.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

Do you think they should have a tougher sentencing if it is found to be a hate crime, in other words what do you think about hate crime laws?

As far as lynch mob perhaps?

I think they still have their use. Eventually... when idiots on both sides of the fence stop being idiots pertaining to race... then of course we won't need that kind of sentence enhancements.

Yes. When caught, these punks should likely be severely castigated. If it turns out that it was a hate crime, then even more so.

Because Al Sharpton and his cronies have documented quite the number of hate crimes.

well sure they have, they live for it.

Earlier in a post it sounded like you were saying that we shouldnt be too upset with these things(black on white hate crime) considering our history here in the states, did I read that right?

Sentencing guidelines for crimes is a double edged sword. Similar to mandatory minimums, they work for a lot of situations. However, they do create some serious miscarriages of justice. That being said, if this is classified as a hate crime, how do you charge each individual in the mob? How do you classify their involvement and apply it to the sentencing guidelines? Sounds like a really messy situation for any judge that sees this case.

I think the statement regarding insurance was very naive. Even with insurance people could end up paying thousands of dollars in this situation for what isn't covered. Moreover, your premiums are only effected by people who default on medical payments. There is no sign of that happening here.

Not really. That was part of the sarcasm game that was being executed.

We should be upset that hate exists...

In could come AJ and remind people that there's good insurance and then there's bad insurance.

That would be a sticky one for the judge. I would say anyone that threw a punch or kicked should be found guilty of this hate crime, it seems that witnesses would be the only evidence. Hopefully a video of this emerges.

But wouldn't anyone who made statements of encouragement be inciting a racial crime? Now let me ask you this, if there were racial epithets hurled at the mob to begin with, would that change your opinion of the circumstances? I don't think it excuses them from their guilt in an assault and battery.

It wouldnt change my mind, we should be able to say whatever we want no matter how repulsive. I wouldnt feel sorry for them by no means but as far as court of law goes I dont think that should make a difference.

"As far as lynch mob perhaps?"

Now were talking!

Yeah we can google up a few images of those.

On a serious note, yeah I dont support that behavior.

I feel you don't promote or even condone that barbaric behavior either. Although people can be manipulated into actually following a mob action... its not for all to be weak-minded.
