A loooooooooooong time ago, i got into a car accident where I was T-boned by a drunk black lady. I happened to be in a black neighborhood at the time, and to add to the issue, racial tensions were at an all time high due to the fact of some Spanish cop in Miami shooting a black kid who aimed a toy gun at him. Overtown rioted I think for a week straight.

Anyhoo, this woman blows a stop sign & t-bones me....many of the residents came out of their houses to see what happened. The woman gets outta her truck, comes up to me stuck inside my car, and starts beating the ####### outta me. All the residents cheered and chanted 'Kill Whitey!' and 'White Devil!' until the cops arrived.

Did they take her to jail? Of course not...no one saw a thing

Where I lived a few years ago, a white guy at a college party gave a ride home to 3 blacks guys. They tried to rob him and killed him for the $2 in his pocket. They caught the preps shortly thereafter.

The local Sharpton character declared that the community had lost 4 young men.

If 3 white guys had executed a black man there would have been outrage but this was just a another crime against a naive white guy from the suburbs.

OK, for about the 5th time, I do not think that violence is EVER the answer. The topic of the thread is "Why isn't this a hate crime" and the reason is that the legal classification depends on the motivation of the perpetrators. We don't know that motivation.

The question isn't "can this be justified" - IN ANY possible set of victim/perpetrator combination, NO, I do not think it is ever acceptable for "50" people to gang up on and beat up a person.

We have laws which will state what crime this is classified as, and what their sentences should be if convicted. Those sentences change when the motivation is determined to be racial. That is the only part of the argument which I have taken up here.

It's not blame the victim. No, violence is never good, but to blow this up into a black vs. white thing doesn't seem to make that much sense either. I'm sorry that the guy is hurt, but what makes this news? People get hurt all the time. The other half of this story is glaringly absent.
