Salaam all.

Bridget, I find it hard to make if feel like Ramadan here in the U.S. at all. I mean, I fast and I try to read more qu'ran, attend taraweeh prayer, and be as close to Allah (swt) as I know how, but really it's nothing like living in the Middle East.

You should not feel guilty, although I know what you mean. You still feel bad. Just ask Allah (swt) to forgive you and pay the fidya. I think you are supposed to pay for at least one or two meals for every day of fasting you miss. The amount of meals depends on the school of thought you are familiar with. I think there is an actually dollar amount, although unfortunately I don't know what that is. Sowwy

InshaAllah, may Allah (swt) accept all of our prayers and shed his rahmat on us all.

Wow, I thought I was the only one that isn't able to fast. Because of my meds and illnesses my doctor ordered me NOT to fast. Kamal said this is between you and Allah. Anyway, Bridget I do have that link somewhere that Jenn put on here this year. I will look it up and either post it here or pm it to you. I also have a magazine out in the car that you can send money too, its from our masjid. I will go out later and again post it here for everyone to see.

Tasha, Kamal has always wanted to send money over to morocco for chairty purposes. I finally have gotton him to see, the money that I have to give because I cannot fast should go to someone here. I live and he lives in the USA, there are so many people (muslims) that are poor as well as the countrys our men come from. But I was very adment on the money staying in the US.

I used that link to figure out the amount, which is $3.50/day per the hanafi madhab, but then I went to www.islamicreliefusa.org to donate. I actually prefer to give there but that's just me.

I am sorry that some of you are having a hard time fasting.

As far as I know, it is preferred, as the first thing, to make up the fast when you can. If you can NEVER make up the fast, then I think the next thing is actually feeding a poor person. If you can do neither, than I think the donating is permissible.

I still have some previous fasting days to make up and I will try to do them in the winter months insha'Allah when the days are shorter. Maybe some of you could also make up days in the winter? 10 hours fasting isn't nearly so hard as 15 or so.

Just a thought and not judging anyone.

:star:

Hope everyone enjoys the rest of Ramadan, fasting or otherwise.

For those of you who are not fasting this month, what do you do to make it still feel like Ramadan? I had to call my doctor the other day because I was really one hurting pup and she advised me against fasting since 1) I need to take medication throughout the day for pain and 2) the stress of fasting is making me go into flareups. I just feel guilty and I know I shouldn't but I do. :(

Awwww Bridget (F) Can you kind of revert to your Catholic Lenten ways during this time? Like maybe pick one thing that you truly LOVE like cigarettes (I've forgotten if you quit), chocolate, or something that has a powerful hold on you and give it up during Ramadan. It isn't the same as fasting, but trust me, and you know this to be true...giving up anything for that long and you will totally feel it.

Well, for me anyway and I know for Turia as well, it's not that fasting in general is hard. When I did try to fast I wasn't the least bit hungry so that part I could handle. For me it was not being able to take my pain medication every four hours which led to me being in excruciating pain which led to a flare up and made the pain worse. Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition and won't go away, ever, so making up the fast is not a possibility since the same cycle of pain/stress/flareup/more intense pain will continue. I have been able to tolerate it the past few years but my condition worsened around Nov '08 and since then I'm not in good shape at all. Can barely walk from my desk at work to the bathroom without holding on to the wall. I actually hold it in during the day so I'll make less trips just because it's that painful.

Oh I would totally feel it but there are strict rules for Ramadan so that would be a no. Plus I'm not ready to give up cigarettes, chocolate or anything else that has a strong hold on me right now. :P Thanks though!

Ramadan Mubarak everyone, I have a question about Salat. I know theres an islamic thread, but I can't find it so I will ask here. Ok, there is a part in the Salat, I think it's called tashahood, it starts like ataheyatuh lile wa salawet, u know what part I mean? Ok, depending on how many rakaats your offering, when do you say the tashahood? I know if it's 2 rakaats you say it after the second sujuud, I mean just at the end, but what about 3 and 4 rakaats? I keep forgetting! Please if someone can help out, I will be very greatfull! Thanks, Allah Hafiz...

Ramadan kareem and salaam to you sis. I know exactly what part you mean and you're right, it's called the tashahud. The tashahud is always said after the second rakat for all prayers. So for fajr, you would say it after the second. For zuhr, asr and isha you would say it after the second and the fourth and for magrib you'd say it after the second and third rakat. InshaAllah that helps.

I forgot I was gonna add this....here is the Muslim thread you were looking for.

Salaam gang,

Okay....so I know I'm not as good as Umm squeaker, but I will try my best (Melly can I get a little help?) This shoulda been posted yesterday...sowwy!

It's that time....the last 10 days of Ramadan, subhanAllah! So do you know what that means??

:star: Laylat al-Qadr :star:

This day is known as the Night of Power or the Night of Destiny

This event is one of the most blessed of all nights in the Islamic calendar year

Quran Al-Qadr 97:1-5

In the name of God, the Benevolent, the Merciful.

1 We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power

2 And what will explain to thee what the night of power is?

3 The Night of Power is better than a thousand months

4 Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand

5 Peace!...This until the rise of morn!

Hadith by Al-Bukari & Muslim, "Prophet Mohamed, Allahu alayhi wa salaam has said: "Whoever stays up and prays on Laylat Al-Qadr out of faith and in the hope of reward, his previous sins will be forgiven."

Laylat al Qadr commemorates the night in 610 CE when Allah revealed the Qur'an to the prophet Muhammad, Allahu alayhi wa salaam. The angel Jabril first spoke to our prophet during that time, which marked the beginning of the teaching of the Qu'ran.

Laylat al-Qadr is considered to be within the last 10 days of Ramadan, particularly on the odd nights (ie. the 21st, 23rd, 25th and 27th). Of the odd nights, the night of the 27th (which is the night before the 27th of Ramadan, as the Islamic day starts with nightfall) is most likely..

Many Muslims will spend the next ten nights of Ramadan in pure devotion, retreating to the mosque to read Qur'an, reciting duaa, praying all night, asking for forgiveness and reflecting on the meaning of Allah's message to us. It is an intense time of spirituality, when inshaAllah we are surrounded by angels, the gates of heaven are open, and God's blessings and mercy are abundant.

Salam Sharifah :)

Looks like you got it covered pretty good.

Muhammad Alshareef (of Al-Maghrib Institute) has had some great email reminders about the last ten nights...

This came the other day:

Ultimate Last-10 Nights Dua

Step 1: Go somewhere really beautiful, where no one can disturb you

Step 2: Imagine Allah says to you, "Ask whatever you wish and I shall grant it to you." Think of everything good you would ask for from this life and the next.

Step 3: After thinking of everything you can, sit down and write it out.

Step 4: Pick 5 things, your favorites, and consistently ask Allah for these 5 every night in the last ten nights of Ramadan. Your dua will be guaranteed to have landed on Laylatul-Qadr! How cool is that?

Also, I just watched this today and really really liked it. Yasir Qadhi is such a great speaker.

This is about making dua - I highly recommend it to all my sisters :star:

This definitely opened my mind and heart.

And one last thing - for those who can't get to a mosque for taraweeh prayers, you can pray at home.

It is said that Allah comes down from the heavens during the last third of the night to listen to those who call on Him.

This is a great time to do some extra prayers - even two rakah!

(maybe even just getting up a little bit extra before suhoor to do a few rakah)

And then make dua like nobodies business!! :D

Wishing everyone the best and that all our duas are answered ameen. :luv:

Regarding laylat al qadar, I just read something else I had bookmarked to read.

It's from the website of Suhaib Webb, who is another speaker that I enjoy listening to. He has a GREAT series on the wives of the prophet, salallahu alayhi wassalam, called Mothers of the Believers.

Anyways, here is a short post he did regarding laylat al qadar.

Suhaib Webb

And here's a link to his Mothers of the Believers series, I'm sure you can buy it at other places too.

we have a big Eid prayer at the downtown convention center. But our masjids dont plan anything else. Everyone goes to Johns Incredible Pizza after.. we invade it. But since we are jobless, we will just come home and do a party for ourselves here... Unfortunate that our community only does activities that can be costly and leaves many out...
