I agree with what Amysaid said...some of these guys do slave in over 100 degree heat and still fast. I swear some of the guys get here and turn into absolute cream puffs. They whine and complain like they haven't fasted almost all their lives.

Thats exactly what he does!

I don't know if your hubby is working, but maybe if he is, you can suggest that if he needs such respite care during Ramadan, that he can pay some neighbor kid to take over his obligations (such as mowing the lawn) while he rests?

I guess I'm a wimp because I don't expect Usama to do more than the bare minimum while he is fasting and he doesn't expect it of me either. Other than the first few days I really haven't been cooking gourmet meals and we've eaten out twice. I can barely function while fasting so how can I expect him to do more than me? Turia are you also fasting? I thought I remembered you saying you couldn't because you're under a doctor's care. It's hard lemme tell ya! Like I said though I'm a wimp.

I like the idea of giving a kid on your street a few bucks to mow the lawn. The lawn won't die if it goes a month without being mowed but then again I'm not that picky and I know the feeling of being so weak and tired that you just can't do anything but lie down with an ice pack on your head.

If he isn't used to fasting in the day time, he is totally gonna be pooped. It's soooooooo hard!!! I work indoors in a pharmacy and I'll be honest, I haven't made it through but 2 full days at work without taking a drink of water. I still try to maintain as much of a fast as I can but I'm weak weak weak weak when it comes to being thirsty. By the time I get home, I can barely hold myself up coz I'm so famished.

My hubster thought he would go about his daily business the other day and mow the grass at 130pm, pick up the leaves, and a few other outside chores. He got the grass mowed and was gonna come inside to use the bathroom and no sooner than he walked in the door.....he blacked out and fell to the floor. He was so weak that my son had to help him to the couch, where he stayed until I forced him to go get some water to replenish what he had lost outside. I know that some ppl (especially in their countries) work outside and all that but they grow up doing it and don't know any different. They also have hoardes of other ppl doing it along with them so that keeps the stamina high. Here, they're basically on their own so it doesn't take near as much to wipe them out.

I say go easy on him during Ramadan coz it's definitely no cake walk (lol I said cake walk in reference to Ramadan...*snicker*)...sorry... anyway.... it's super hard for ppl who are normally up all day but I can't imagine how difficult it would be for someone who usually sleeps their way through the fasting....and then is suddenly pushed to be awake AND starving AND thirsting to death all day long.

If that doesn't help....well... I still love ya :) {{{{{hugs}}}}}}

Hello ladies :star:

Hope everyone is enjoying and making the most of this Ramadan.

The subject of food at iftar has come up in at least a couple of threads, and I wanted to make some points about this because there seems to be some misconceptions going on.

Ramadan is NOT about iftar and eating special foods that take a woman all day to cook.

Ramadan is a month that we fast for Allah alone, seeking his pleasure and trying to get closer to him through our acts of worship.

Sure, a woman can earn reward for cooking for her husband, but why does it need to be some huge special affair every day during Ramadan? If anything, it should be less. This month has turned into a month of over indulgence for so many people and personally I think that's sad and I find it goes against what the whole month is about.

A woman deserves just as much time to worship during this blessed month as a man, and anyone who keeps their woman cooking in the kitchen all day should be ashamed of themselves. That woman is missing out on getting closer to Allah and is instead cooking food that will be gone within a day, with nothing left to show of it except a little more padding on the families butts. :P

Can you imagine the prophet, salallahu alayhi wassalam, demanding his wives to stay in the kitchen cooking for them, or that they better have dinner ready in time?

He broke his fast with dates and maybe milk, not huge meals that left people sleeping the next few hours off.

I know that this post probably won't make any difference but I still felt it should be made.

Wishing you all a Ramadan filled with blessings and may Allah forgive us all our sins, ameen.

Living with hubby in Egypt, at last.

I was talking to my husband about how some of the men are very cranky while fasting. Kind of like me :P I asked him why he stays so calm and how come little things don't set him off like they would me when I'm starving. He told me that he feels so so close to God and knows that Allah is very close to him always. He said that maybe sometimes people forget and think they can hide things from God but you cannot hide anything from the All Knowing. That actually helped me put things in perspective a bit so when I start fasting again in a couple of days I'm going to try to picture Allah as close as my jugular vein like it says in the Quran. He sees everything. Kind of freaks me right out but anyways maybe it will help me from biting people's heads off while I fast.

As for eating too much, well we did the first few days but after that we weren't as hungry. I do have to have some sort of dessert each night though because that makes me feel like it's a celebration, which of course it is. It's hard to remember that sometimes here though since we're the only ones doing it. It's not like Christmas where all the houses are decked out and there's that awesome chipper feeling everywhere you go, you know?

Hubby brought back some ramadan themed lights from Jordan. We ahve them hung in our living room and it kind of puts the feeling of Ramadan in the house a bit more.

I agree with the food comment. We had a small meal of some soup and bread last night and it was WONDERFUL. I wasn't stuffed but yet satisfied and had a much better night.

We usually buy our dates directly from this farm in California. They taste soooooooooo much better than what you can get other places.

I always make Harira for DH. Yum!

Does anyone know of a good young children's book on Ramadan (in English) that I could read to the babies?

I found a cute little book at the library for my kids called "My First Ramadan" by Karen Katz. I even ordered a copy from Amazon.com so we could have one of our own. It's a very basic book with simplistic pictures. If you go to http://books.google.com/books?id=9EO6ibM1M...;q=&f=false you can even look at some of it.

Good luck!

Hi Ladies....just joining this thread & needing some advice. My husband is Muslim and I am Christian. I've never been through Ramadan before and I am seriously worried about what I should do for my hubby! I don't know the exact "procedures" if you will and when and where and how. :( I feel like I should fast with him, but I don't know how I should even begin. Is it correct that you can even drink water during the fast? Need some help ladies. This will be his first Ramadan away from home and I want to make it the best I can.

Amanda

Amanda,

I'm far from an expert, but one thing that came to mind is to be careful about things like locking the door when you are changing to make sure he doesn't accidently see you naked during the day during Ramadan. Don't make sexual comments to him either, since Muslims are not supposed to think about sex while fasting. And be prepared to do without hugs and kisses until sundown!

Also, if you don't fast, it's a good idea to eat and drink where he won't see you. Try to avoid cooking things with strong smells - especially if it's something he really likes. Those aren't things that I heard anywhere - just things that seem polite.

Good luck if you do try to fast. Don't be hard on yourself if you aren't able to do it 100%, or slip up sometimes.

Actually, unless her husband thinks about sex 24/7 and is unable to control himself, I don't see how changing clothes in front of him is going to do any harm. And there is nothing wrong with a hug and peck on the cheek goodbye in the morning before work or when coming home. Husbands and wives can be together, as long as it's not sexual or leads to sex. A kiss and hug doesn't have to be sexual.

If I am not mistaken, even the prophet, salallahu alayhi wassalam, hugged and kissed his wives while fasting.
