Yea melly!

I'm trying not to complain and be dramatic at all~~ but dang this is hard. It must be easier in a country where most of the people are fasting.

I thought it would be... but since I don't really go out much, there hasn't been much difference for me. It's still tough, but today wasn't so bad, because Ahmed prepared all of Abigail's meals for me and let me stay in the A/C all day. He usually fasts two days a week routinely, so I guess he's kind of used to it, and he's used to the heat. I'm like a wilting petunia. :P

I think it's harder if you can't relax a bit and take naps and stuff.

Hubby an I have been staying up so late because of the heat, that we go to bed between 3 and 5 am every morning, and wake around noon or so.

If I had to work you bet I'd be feeling it a lot more!

But, it's still hard. Not eating is not eating. lol

And smelling the food my MIL was making in the kitchen was like torture.

I think there is definitely more of a feeling of camaraderie though when everyone around you is fasting.

But you are a strong woman Jackie and I know you will do it no problem! And insha'Allah it will be easier after the first few days. :star:

Living with hubby in Egypt, at last.

During Ramadan in Egypt they bring out the kid toys and I bought one and brought it back for my Mom. Here it is! Enjoy!

th_olivia001.jpg

It's a video you have to click on the watch it play.

Olivia that is awesome! My husband was dancing around just now listening to it. :luv: He said that must be a new one but I wonder if they sell them in Cairo. I'd love for him to bring home two for the girls, even though they're "too old for that stuff mom!". (meanwhile I catch them watchin' spongebob on the sly sometimes  )

Alhumdulilah. I don't know about the rest of you but I definitely felt my soul getting back in the groove tonight. I know this is wicked mushy-touchy-feeliness but I feel so grateful that God gives us this second chance type of thing every year, you know?:wub:

I'm also grateful that I have this next week off because the little fifteen minute naps here and there really do make a difference. We didn't wake up at 4am like we planned. Instead we just stayed up till 3am and then I set my alarm for 4:20 so that I could take my morning meds. I think I'll go out tomorrow and get some 8 hour tylenol so that at least the first part of the day will be relatively pain free. I actually broke my fast with three x-tra strength tylenol and a diet coke to try to take the edge off of the migraine. After twenty minutes I felt AWESOME!!!:dance::dance:

This may sound like a silly question but something i worry about!! Im live in UK where there are loooaddds of Halal meat stores and restaurants and i have no idea what its like in America!! I mean i know there are many muslims there so there must be (I AM GOING TO LIVE IN OHIO) but i worry that people dont take it so seriously there, i dont think my family in the US do, they just eat anywhere. But it is very important to me to only eat HALAL meat. (meaning that when the animal has been killed, it is done in a halal way, slitting the throat to ensure the least suffering, and saying BISMILLAH when killing) This is the only meat we are allowed to eat, not just meat from any where.

Are there many halal butchers and restaurants over there?

Anyone from OHIO?

Thanks guys

I'm way behind in this thread and this has probably been answered already but I was reading qura'an last night about this very thing and wanted to share it with you anyway. Often times the worry is over HALAL and all that... but in qura'an it makes it so very easy....

Surah 5 Al-Maeda verse 4 -5 says:

They ask you (O Muhammad SAW) what is lawful for them (as food). Say: "Lawful unto you are At-Tayyibât [all kind of Halâl (lawful-good) foods which Allâh has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits)]. And those beasts and birds of prey which you have trained as hounds, training and teaching them (to catch) in the manner as directed to you by Allâh; so eat of what they catch for you, but pronounce the Name of Allâh over it, and fear Allâh. Verily, Allâh is Swift in reckoning." (4) Made lawful to you this day are At¬Tayyibât [all kinds of Halâl (lawful) foods, which Allâh has made lawful (meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits). The food (slaughtered cattle, eatable animals,) of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) is lawful to you and yours is lawful to them. (Lawful to you in marriage) are chaste women from the believers and chaste women from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians) before your time, when you have given their due Mahr (bridal - money given by the husband to his wife at the time of marriage), desiring chastity (i.e. taking them in legal wedlock) not committing illegal sexual intercourse, nor taking them as girl-friends. And whosoever disbelieves in faith [i.e. in the Oneness of Allâh and in all the other Articles of Faith, i.e. His (Allâh's), Angels, His Holy Books, His Messengers, the Day of Resurrection and Al-Qadar (Divine Preordainments)], then fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be among the losers. (5)

In a primarily Christian country, the food which is lawful to Christians is also lawful to Muslims. We always say bismillah when we know the food is not marked specifically halal...but well, we always say bismillah before we eat anyway. Sometimes we make the "rules" too stiff and difficult for ourselves that we forget how easy it is to follow what Allah has commanded. I hope this helps.

oh, and did i say RAMADAN KAREEM??? I can't remember if I did or not.

Made it thru the first day fasting. Wow was I in a bad mood last night....no cigarettes is KILLER!!! I'm completely out and hoping to completely quit during Ramadan since I can't have any during the day anyway. I woke up every hour on the hour due to craving one soooooooooooo bad...so I just ate a bowl of cereal or an apple instead. Around 3am I almost got dressed and went to the store to buy some but somehow managed to stop myself. Addictions SUCK!!!!!!

My son (10 years old) made it thru his first day of fasting (for the first time ever). I thought he was gonna roll around in the plate of rice and pour the soup over his head by the time it was time to eat lol! All day long he was asking "how much longer until we can eat???" He's trying to fast coz he knows that if he tries his best every day of Ramadan, he will be not only rewarded by Allah but also, for Eid, he'll get the LEGO STAR WARS thing he has been wanting. If it gets him in the mood to fast, then I accept.
