I'n my case my lawyer delayed my case no less than 3 months. He also made at least 10 mistakes that I corrected thanks to VJ. So in my case I paid $1800 to have a 3 month delay. Take it for what it's worth.

Thank you very much guys, I read some points which is true, well I guess it depends to my wife now, according to your point of views, you got different situations, some hired, some don't..I'm a bit confused and restless.

Anyway, I just hope if she hires a lawyer everything will be just fine.

Thank you guys... :)

IMO, I don't think the process is that difficult and hiring a lawyer is probably not necessary. It just all depends on the complexity of your immigration case.

Hi, my hubby hired a lawyer before we even got married and the lawyer had told him that processing will be faster after we got married- she gave us a timeline of 3-6 months. At the time we had no clue on what the process entailed. And even with an immigration lawyer, we still got an RFE twice!! Had we known the VJ community from the onset, we would have done it ourselves. You are lucky to have the backing of VJers and in my opinion, you dont need a lawyer.

really we are not suppose to tell anyone NOT to hire and attorney because we are not lawyers.........

now with that being said..........i hired a lawyer, cant seem to even get to him anymore only some girl that has supposed taken over the k1 petitions, anything he told me in the past she now states they dont do so i guess my attorney is M.I.A

and im still waiting......in my case prolly would have gone easier if i had not hired an attorney for many reasons.

there is a lot of good information here on vj. but if u have a complicated case answers that u need may not be on here and it may be in ur best interest to hire a GOOD immigration attorney.

My advice is based on my choice.

I hired a lawyer, I delayed filing for a month until i could gather things and look online and what not. My situation is that i hired a lawyer to be a lawyer not a secretary, I am not going to pay a lawyer hundreds of dollars to gather information and fill out forms, however i did a lot of the work myself and had her review and she prepared my I-130 packet to send in, and it was exactly what was required. i might have made a little different choice and front loaded, but I didn't mind doing the secretary work as long as she checked and checked and told me what to correct. If my case needs some lawyer advice she is there and knows my case, but if it sails through I didn't pay a lot of money for her advice, and I would certainly pay in the future if I need her. i think it is not necessary to have a lawyer to fill out clerical forms, and the guides here are very thorough and correct, but every guide and everyone on VJ does not know your situtaion only you do, so take the advice, but i would also at least talk to a qualified experienced immigration family attorney, it is usually free consultation.

Well, thank you very much indeed, I guess, i'll just let my wife consult her lawyer, besides no matter what we do, still we are prone to commit mistakes. Thanks every one..
