Does anybody know what a Liger is? Have you seen one? Here it is! Lions and Tigers have the same chromosomes numbers, and can crossbreed. When they cross, man, those are some big beasts!

You select for the traits you desire Danno. This is called artificial selection.

That's very true. You breed for what you need.

Danno brought up a quarter horse/belgian cross as a possible example. In reality, drafts crossbred with lighter saddle breeds are quite popular. You get horses that are big and powerful but have the better movement and agility of the smaller breeds.

Thoroughbed/Irish Draught being a prime example :)

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Indeed. I am merely reminded that some posters here write like they are the F1 generation of a backcross.

And that isn't needed nor wanted.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

It's why a cyborg like Arnold would kick HAL's ####### any time of the day.

HAL 9000 could always switch the Governator off.

Oh snap. Good call, HAL.

lucky it did not evolve to this: fan.gif

It'd sure make a great movie though...Terminator v. HAL9000

I know I'd go see it. :pop:

Fox and Friends host Brian Kilmeade and two colleagues were discussing a study that, based on research done in Finland and Sweden, showed people who stay married are less likely to suffer from Alzheimer's. Kilmeade questioned the results, though, saying, "We are -- we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and other ..."

At this point, his co-host tried to -- in that jokey morning show way -- tell Kilmeade he needed to shut up, and quick, for his own sake. But he didn't get the message, adding, "See, the problem is the Swedes have pure genes. Because they marry other Swedes .... Finns marry other Finns, so they have a pure society."

Very true. Those are quite nice. I've heard they make good jumpers.

 I'd have to agree.

Exactly. Most of the highly competitive warmbloods in dressage and eventing are the result of breeding hotbloods like thoroughbreds and Arabs with 'cold bloods' like draught animals. Over the years the various Warmbloods have resulted. My mare was foundation stock for the Canadian Sport Horse. She was a Quarterhorse/Saddlebred cross and I bred her to a foundation sire Thoroughbred. The Canadian Sport Horse breed is now established with a good deal of Thoroughbred blood crossed with other breeds including a good bit of draught horse producing larger, heavier boned, heavier well muscled animals that are well adapted to the rigours of cross country, hunting, dressage and jumper competitions - a well-rounded athlete.

People are just as much animals as other animals on this planet and ruled by the same genetic criteria.
