I just saw this and it's a great movie.

"Cidade de Deus (City of God) is a housing project built in the 1960's that--in the early 80's--became one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro. The tale tells the stories of many characters whose lives sometimes intersect. However, all is seen through the eyes of a singular narrator: Busca-Pé, a poor black youth too frail and scared to become an outlaw but also to smart to be content with underpaid, menial jobs. He grows up in a very violent environment. The odds are all against him. But Busca-Pé soon discovers that he can see reality differently than others. His redemption is that he's been given an artist's point of view as a keen-eyed photographer. As Busca-Pé is not the real protagonist of the film--only the narrator--he is not the one who makes the decisions that will determine the sequence of events. Nevertheless, not only his life is attached to what happens in the story, but it is also through Busca-Pé's perspective of life that one can understand the complicated layers and humanity of a world, apparently condemned to endless violence."

I'd watch it more times coz there are a bunch of details I'd love to analyze in a better way. Maybe because I'm from a neighbour country (Venezuela) and similar situations happen there, so... :)

Really great movie!! I recomend it.

Dave and I watched it together when he was living here in Brazil with me and it helped me explaining a few things to him.... and some other things I didn't even know so it taught me too. It reflects a reality that was impossible to drescribe using only empty words. The emotion it transmits is just amazing.

10/26/2006- Consulate receives case (seriously, one month to receive the case?? BS!), and packet 3 that I sent even before they had received the case.

01/02/2007- Interview!!!!!!!!!!!!! Got a 221(g)

01/23/2007- Second Interview. VISA granted!!!

01/29/2007- VISA arrived.... no envelope though. I'm gonna contact them and see what happened this time!

01/31/2007- I'll have to send them one last financial support evidence.

02/01/2007- Evidence sent

02/02/2007- Evidence received by Consulate

02/06/2007- Consulate sends envelope!

02/07/2007- Envelope received!!!

02/10/2007- Flew to the USA!!!!!!

04/17/2007- Wedding day!!!

I love this movie! Now that I learned a bunch of Portuguese I rented it again, thinking maybe I could watch it with out subtitles. Yeah right. Looks like I got a little cocky. But at least I could tell that the English subtitles are really lame. The names they make up are ridiculous! But I think it's a moving and difficult movie
