Activating GC question

I have my interview on August 12 and WHEN i am approved and receive my VISA I have read somewhere that I have up to 6 months to activate it. So my question is, can I activate it ASAP and continue to live in Canada for a couple of months until I go to the US? What I wanted to do is continue working while I applied for a Social Security card and then to look for a job. I think I would feel more comfortable making money while looking for a job in my new home. Is there a problem with this or has anyone ever done this before? Thanks for any replies.

looking at ur timeline, you will have a cr-1 (or ir-1) correct???? if that is the case yes, you can goto a POE and "activate" it and then turn right around! Other VJ'ers have done this to get the "ball" running!

Not to be picky, but when the visa is issued it is already active. That's why it has an expiry date. When you use it at the POE it's cancelled and made inactive.
