Is I-551 as good as greencard for reentry?

hi all!

Just finished my interview the other day and my visa was approved. My husband's contract here in Manila ends in nov. so we don't plan to move to the states till then. However, we plan on going on vacation in August for only 4 weeks. Here's my questeion... Do I need to wait for my greencard to be mailed before flying back to Manila?(Which means most likely I'd have to stay for more than 4 weeks) Or can I just re-enter in November with the I-551 that will be stamped on my passport when I go in August?

I hope someone can help me with this. Thanks!

The stamp my wife received was a one year I-551 stamp which is the equivalent of the green card. You should be fine with that stamp.

(I'm going for the IR-1 and blowing off the K-3. Even if it takes an extra couple months, it's worth it to not have to deal with USCIS again)

Note:

Please fill out I-130, wait 6 months for approval, then 3 more months for an interview. (Unless of course we've bombed your country into the stone age, then you qualify for expedited processing.)

That's correct. The I-551 stamp is valid for re-entry to the US.

^^ Agree with all the above. I traveled back to Canada a week after I entered and had no problems returning. Have a great vacation. :thumbs:
