Total time from filing to interview took exactly 2 months. Time from filing to visa was 2 months and 1 day! I am happy to say my husband received his visa on July 2nd and flew to the US on July 3rd (just in time for independence day, LOL). He had NO problems at POE in Newark. They sent him through the residence line. He was actually the very first person in line and there were no citizens waiting in line when he got there, so total time through immigration and processing took 15 minutes. Not knowing what to expect on a holiday, we allowed 5.5 hours between his flights, LOL. Luckily, he was able to get his flight moved to an earlier one.

I have to say, the DCF was probably the easiest process I have ever been through when dealing with the US government. We thought the Denmark government would be easier, but as of today, they are still processing my residency application in Denmark (we filed in last December).

On a different note...my husband had a job waiting for him. When he notified his company that he had arrived with his I-551 stamp they immediately replied they wanted him to start this week and sent all the standard employment forms. We aren't sure how to fill it out since he doesn't have his SSN yet. He does have an ITIN number, should we put that in the SSN block for the I-9 and W-4 then update later when we get his SSN? The company doesn't seem to know either, LOL.

Technically ITIN numbers are not valid for employment. But in practice they are used all the time, this is one of the reasons that the IRS stopped issuing them with cards similar to SS cards years ago.

If the employer doesn't care and knows the facts about his legal status he will be ok.

The advantage his employer has is that this is the beginning of the third quarter for payroll purposes, payroll reports will not be issued until October for the quarter ending September 30th (July, August, September), plenty of time to correct the ss number issue.

Congratulations and good luck!!
