Maybe the media can focus on Britney, Paris and Lindsey again. One of them is bound to not wear underwear and be seen with their skirt over their hips and leaving it all hang out. That will give the news stations another week of material. Have you already forgotten how long Anna Niclole Smith occupied the news? Remember how America waited anxiously for weeks to find out who was the father of this tramps child? And you ddin't expect it to happen with Jackson?

Well, that I agree with. What happened all of a sudden when dysfunctional people have kids that they cannot realistically afford all of a sudden become millionaire celebrities?

You don't have to buy into the hype, you can turn off the tv (or do as I do, not even turn it on particularly to the idiocy the visual media calls 'news').

That said however, Michael Jackson did create music and spectacle that millions of people enjoyed. Many people acknowledge that he had musical talent and showmanship skills. It may not be to your taste but it is not true to suggest that his music was only enjoyed by simpletons or those who have no ear for good music.

He was no 'god' but he was by any definition a star and it is quite normal that his untimely passing (or even timely) would elicit interest and a show of respect and admiration by those who enjoyed his particular talents. To suggest that somehow there is some political correctness at work though is specious. The same attention is lavished on anyone who can sell advertising space for the media, that's how it works.

Anyway, I am not 'suggesting ' anything. I am saying (and have said all along) that yes, he revolutionized a whole genre of music and dance. Respect for that. No respect from me for self abuse etc ( first post)....

I have also stated ( not suggested) that there is a whole wad of hypocrisy after his death.

And I am also bluntly stating ( as far as octomom and Jon and Kate go) that dysfunction and loserdom come with massive rewards, seemingly.

And I've not turned on the TV/read a mag or newspaper since he died ( well, only to watch House)- and I'd never even heard of the Jon and Kate ####### until they were showcasing their divorce and it was force fed on some news channel.

There is a bigger discussion to be had though, the visual media in particular uses any and every means it can (read the Murky Murdoch thread if you can be bothered ) to sell advertising space - it's what they do. The media really is not functioning particularly well as the fourth estate, at least not in the US. It's dispiriting in many ways, and particularly so as the newspaper industry is evolving currently and has as yet not found its footing in the digital age. I am still hopeful that journalism is not dead, but currently it is buried beneath a morass of OPINION
