In order to be hired you'll need the EAD. That being said given the economy it might be a good idea to begin looking if you think it will be hard to find a job and your in the line of work that doesn't demand starting right away.

When did you apply for ead

I have received my social security card and it reads "work only with DHS authorization"

I have applied for EAD and GREENCARD and my biometrics app is tuesday

CAN I WORK??

"VALID FOR WORK ONLY WITH INS AUTHORIZATION" indicating to an employer that you must also have an unexpired EAD to be eligible to work.

The Visa FAQs are very comprehensive, if you read the relevant FAQs for your Visa, you'll know what to expect.

Hope this is helpful.

Also, if you were to look at any employment application, most will tell you that they required two types of ids that prove that you can work in the usa....social security number is one, and the other one is your greencard or EAD. SS# alone is not enough proof to work in the usa.
