I'm sure this has been talked about before. But, I was trying to get the latest info. We heard that if your fiance flies into JFK, they can receive an EAD stamp which permits them to work immediately. If this is accurate, would Manuel be allowed to fly into JFK, so he could get this stamp, and then catch a transfer flight to get him home? We are trying to get accurate information so we can make the best decision. Any help with this would be appreciated!

(Still trying to get a grasp on this whole process   )

Don't bother - according to the latest info, it's no longer usable with the new e-verify system.

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

It is kind of true. Yes, you can fly into JFK and will probably get the temporary EAD stamp (then fly/connect to wherever the final destination is).

The problem is - is this temp. EAD worth all that trouble? The answer in most people's case is NO.

Two reasons - 1) Many employers will not hire someone with such a temporary authorization (90 days). Right or wrong, it's a fact of life. 2)If the employer uses electronic verification, they will not hire someone with this temp. EAD (long story, but it's just the way it is).

Bottom line: Don't bother with the time/expense for this - come to the US, get married and file for AOS/EAD as soon as possible - the 'real' EAD only takes about 60-90 days to get and is valid for 1-year.

just a note for others flying to USA through Dublin, Ireland.

If you are flying to the States and your flight goes through Dublin you will be going through immigration in Dublin airport, so you will not get an EAD stamp here even if your destination is New York. I have read that this has caught a few people out who were looking to get EAD upon arrival in NY. I know this is a bummer but it is a good thing also as it means you will have passed immigration before setting foot in USA, I would imagine the flight is that bit more enjoyable knowing you have that part over with, all you have to do when you get to the States is collect you baggage and go on your merry way. :)

We got that EAD stamp at JFK, but is worthless; as people said, most employers won't go through the trouble of hiring you if you won't be eligible to work.....of course, for us, flying to JFK was the cheapest way to the USA so we didn't really flew there to get the stamp, but honestly, not worth the hassle.

we got the stamp at JFK. most employers won't accept it, but my husband is now working 2 jobs that accepted the stamp WITH the NOA1 for EAD. so out of the 30+ places we applied to, 2 were willing to work with us. hopefully the EAD will come in time to avoid a lapse between the stamp and the card.
