Hi everybody,

has anybody an idea how to get heavy stuff like books etc. from Europe to the US? Is there any cheap way to send it? I live in Germany and the German Post office is still a monopol and it soooo expensive to ship the stuff over.

I look forward to get some responses from you.

Unfortunately the most airlines have changed from 2x32kg to 2x23 kg. This is a big difference and I do not know what to do with all my stuffy. :o

Yea, I noticed that too - they changed it from 32 to 23......... bummer :(

I think that it's cheaper if you take it with you to the airport and pay for the extra weight, try and call ahead and ask at the airline you are going to use, how much they charge for it.

Have a great trip :)

Google for "lcl container" (without quotes). AFAIK it's the cheapest way if you have a lot of heavy things.

AA will let you take 32 kg for $25 per bag, one way.

You can also send them by ship. When my fiancé comes, he is going to ship some of his stuff, at least in Iceland they have a big shipping company that goes to NYC. I'm sure there must be something in mainland Europe like that, especially seeing as when I sent a gift surface mail (never again!) the USPS sends it to Germany first. (This they told me after I inquired where the heck it had gotten to.)

I move from France to America in September.

I called some cargo moving companies, i found their name in magazines, franco-american magazine.

It's a 170€ fee +3€ the kilogramme. I don't have volumes only boxes of personnal effects. They come pick the bpxes up in my apt in Paris and then in America i need to pick them up at the airport. I'm lucky my in laws will help so no more moeny on that.

I alreday have 6 boxes (70 kg) most of my books and my winter clothes.

You should check for 'international moving companies' on your yellow pages or something.
