How important is the diamond ring? My baby wanted a garnet ring as her engagement ring and my baby gets why my baby wants so she has a nice garnet ring from me as a promise of engagement. Now I'm reading all over here that people bring in their receipts for the diamond ring to the embassy interview, I'm a march applier through vermont BTW, am we in a bad spot with our "different" ring? I'm in the States now and she's in Makati so I can't really get down on a knee again officially but should we get her a cheap diamond ring just to wear for the interview? I view it is as lying and prefer the truth but I realize perception is important; I'd walk through hell to get my baby here as quickly as possible so I'll do what I have to do?

Any feedback would be loved!? Thank you so much.

I don't hear any case that they dwell on an engagement ring. The genuine relationship is what the CO is looking for. Physical evidences such as pictures, letters, plane tickets, visits to the Philippines, emails, etc. are the concrete evidences that they look for. Any type of ring will do, that's not a big deal. Good luck!

Kugeng is sporting a $40 dollar Walmart special as her engagement ring. She is tickled pink with it. It was never an issue at her interview. Wasn't even brought up by the CO.

Luckymom has given you great advice. In addition, I would also concentrate on proofs of an ongoing bona fide relationship such as archived yahoo chats, money transfers, phone call receipts, etc.

Don't worry about it. I don't have an engagement ring when I had my interview and I passed.

Nothing to worry about. My fiance didn't have an engagement ring for her interview and it was never an issue. That's the last thing I would worry about right now. Good luck. Mike

A blue light special from K-mart might suffice, ain't it, huh, Wyatt? :star:

Yep! For 2 reasons. First one being, I didn't want any possible harm to come to her over a peice of jewlry. (she doesn't live in sophisticated Makati), and the 2nd reason being its just a symbol and regardless of its value the symbol is the same. When I asked her what she wanted for a ring? She simply stated nothing to expensive she would rather we spend the money on premium breeding pig. I sure do love that woman! I definately met my match.

If she would have said she wanted a 1.5 karat, VS1 clarity, color E or above pincess cut diamond mounted in a platinum setting, then thats what she would have gotten. I knew before I asked her to marry me, that thats not how she rolls.

They never asked to see my ring during my interview neither most people here, I believe. I don't know if they're trying to be observant and just saw it on my finger, but I don't think it's that big of a deal. So don't worry about it. Just make sure you have every proof of your genuine relationship.

Engagement ring is not a matter of requirement... what they will look into is documentations/proof that the relationship is genuine.. there are more evidences that you can send/bring with you during the interview aside from the diamond ring or receipt of such... and any engagement ring will do (whether it cost $5 or $5k, diamond or not), what matter is the reason for that engagement ring. So, don't worry too much about the ring... just present yourself well, make sure you have all the necessary documents/pics, etc... and be corteous and "smile". Good Luck and God Bless.

You could give her diamond ring in a platinum setting. Though she could not wear it everyday. She just need to keep it and then wear it during the interview..
