The Lagos Consulate, as of July 1, 2009, is no longer taking walk in visa inquiries (only from US Citizens or permanent residents). The packet info is on their website to download with all forms needed (not as concerned about this). But we are waiting for an interview date now (can’t even get medical started without having proof of interview date). Our petition arrived in Lagos June 29th and my SO was going to go pick up his packets 3 & 4 and get his interview date on July 2nd. Now he can not. On July 1st, we both emailed the embassy requesting the packets and interview date be sent via email. I’m also curious as to if they will email him the interview date instead of mailing out the packets with the interview date since that is what was requested. If they decide to mail it out, who do they use? FEDEX or DHL? Surely not the regular mail there? I did call DOS to inquire if the embassy schedules an interview date would it show in their system. DOS said it will and then advised me it can take a few months for them to assign an interview date??????

Has anyone ever filed a K1 in Lagos and waited to be contacted for interview date instead of going to the embassy themselves to get it? If so how long did it take to be contacted?

:help:

Sorry to hear about all of this. How did you find out that they're no longer taking walk-in inquiries?

Another lady from VJ's fiance went on July 1st to get his packet and interview date. After waiting in line for hours he was advised of this and he wasnt able to get anything he came for. He was advised to email the consulate requesting the packets and interview date be emailed to him so that is where I got the idea and emailed them as well. No response yet other than the auto response they send letting you know they will get back with you in a few days if necessary. It's on the Lagos Consulate's website too that effective 7-1-09 they are no longer taking walkin visa inquiries. The website just says that once you have been notified by NVC that your file is on its way to the Consulate that they will contact you for an interview date. Very frustrating.

I just looked at the webite and didn't see any such notice . Where did you see it ?

http://nigeria.usembassy.gov/immigrant_visas.html

Immigrant Visas

Immigrant visas entitle the recipient to permanent resident status in the United States. "Green Card" holders may live and work there, and eventually become naturalized if they so desire.

Most immigration petitions are initiated by a close relative or an employer in the United States. The petition is filed with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. All final interviews and approvals are done at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos. After initial approval, applicants will be notified by the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos about documentation requirements and how to schedule the final interview. Required medical examinations for immigrant visas are conducted only in Lagos and only by doctors certified by the U.S. Consulate General.

Certain categories of immigrant visas are numerically controlled. This may necessitate a waiting period before the application can be further processed. Petitioners should anticipate a delay of up to approximately six months to complete the procedure and be scheduled for a final interview.

Due to diminished capacity as a result of ongoing renovations at our premises, as of July 1, 2009, we will no longer answer routine visa inquiries in person. American citizens with visa inquiries or Legal Permanent Residents requiring assistance with their travel documents may visit the U.S. Consulate General for assistance Monday through Thursday at 11:00 a.m. All other applicants should direct their inquiries to LagosIV@state.gov. All required forms and other documents may be found on our website here [link to the new page below] or by emailing LagosIV@state.gov.

I hope where it mentions certain categories of visas are numerically controlled and can take up to 6 months to be scheduled for final interview doesnt apply to the K1's. Lord help us...

No one has ever waited for the packets and interview be mailed to them or contacted for a interview date in Lagos? Im trying to get a timeframe of how long it can be. Im so frustrated they changed this process of letting people come in and pick up their packets and get the interview date right then. I have emailed them last week with only a auto response in return in about an hour after I emailed them. No other response yet. I have tried to call the embassy and no one will ever answer the phone. Does anyone have any other ideas of what I can do to try to get my interview date? :help:

I was looking around more at the site ( thanks for the link ) and found the following

"your K1 or K3 petition has been approved by the Department of Homeland Security and you have received notification from the National Visa Center that your petition is on its way to post, you should download and complete the following application. The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos will contact you to schedule your appointment. If you have questions on your appointment date, you should email LagosIV@state.gov. Appointments will be scheduled within four months of the approval date listed on your documentation from the Department of Homeland Security." So it looks like within 4 months of the form from DHS. You may be the first one under this new process.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.
