So of course they ask to bring in everything from our original submittal...

2 questions..

They want the I-864 medical . but we have the DS-2032 (or whatever) since her immunizations were done and passed to the embassy in moscow ..

Am i correct in thinking we dont need to bring the medical form since we, of course, dont have it?

The certified translation for the birth certificate .... She translated her own and it got us this far .. Is there something else they need for it to be certified?

We basically brought our whole file with us, didnt show a thing, we actually had copies of paperwork that USCIS misplaced so they had to ask her the questions again. It was silly took us 15 minutes and we were done.

This seems to be one of those "it depends on who does your interview" questions. Technically you are required to have the I-864, and they can delay your conditional if you don't have it. On the other hand, as Thomas experienced, sometimes they don't even ask for it. And I've also read where the interviewer was satisfied with the DS-3025, as long as all required vaccinations were required.

They asked her what her SSN was. She didn't know. They asked her what my cell phone number was. She didn't know. (She said its the job of her cell phone to take care of that.) They asked her home phone (answer: who calls themself at home?) Then her home address. She got it. They asked what my birthday was. She got that one. They asked what my son's birthday was. She knew it was in August. They were dissatisfied. By that time, I knew he was ex-Air Force. So when they asked me my sons birthday, I said, Hiroshima Day. He squirmed when he guessed August 9 (no, that's JG Day). August 8? (No. Nagasaki Day) Then I gave him the answer and we had a good laugh.

They went through ever item on one of the forms, asking if it was correct. It all was.

They asked some questions about how the proxy marriage process worked for us.

We brought a copy of every document associated with all of our petitions, in duplicate in case they wanted a copy, and didn't want any of that. Maybe just the appearance of the very thick filecase took away those questions.

All in all, not too bad at all.

But, as I tried to write before the computer did its hickup, it would have been better if my wife had known more fully the contents of her AOS paperwork. This interview is about the immigrant, not the petitioner. I had taken care of all this USCIS bureaucracy myself, since I'm the USC. I expect her to help me with Russian bureaucracy. It would have been better had we reviewed, in detail, a few times in the days prior to the interview, the information in her AOS paperwork. And it is a good idea for the immigrant to know his/her SSN.

My preparation for the AOS interview was way off the mark. I made sure that we had, in duplicate, copies of all documents from all previous petitions/applications/whatever. Our mistake was that I didn't sit her down to go through any of that stuff with me.

Good stuff novotul, thanks for sharing. So what was the result? You were approved according to your timeline, so did they just glare at you severely and approve her anyway, or did you have to go through additional screening?

I forgot to mention this and I think it did prevent further inquiry Lena was 8 months pregnant at the time of the interview, the case worker looked at her, asked the pink paper questions and said everything looks good here you should see your card in 4-6 weeks.

So if all else fails get your new wife pregnant it definitely shows you have a commitment to each other.

He ordered production of the GC just before the end of the interview. He promised to stamp her passport if a family emergency arose that required her immediate departure from the USA. Of course, there was no such emergency.

By the end of the interview, we were able to agree that lots of us forget, esp under mild pressure, things that we know we should know. Like the fact a 20 yr retired Air Force pilot should *never* forget that Hiroshima Day is 6 August.

I knew we aced the interview when the interviewer asked, "So when did you guys get married?"

I said the wrong day, wife smacked me, and interviewer just smiled and nodded.

When you go for the interview, worry less about the paperwork and more about the "story" of your lives together. Try as I may, I couldn't get my wife to remember that kind of ####### either. Even now, she has absolutely no idea how to contact me at work if there's an emergency. Why not? Because she doesn't want to. I've stopped wasting my breath trying to explain why we do certain things in America the way we do. Now, I just sit back and let her deal with the consequences. You can only do so much. If you're lucky, you'll get an "I see now you right about zis." But, most likely all you'll get is the equivalent of a six-year-old sitting in the corner pouting.

Wow, some of you had hard times in the GC interview. When we went, they asked if we had a joint account, filed joint taxes or had joint bills. I explained that Social Security would not give her a card and without a SSN you don't exist in this country. Then we showed pictures of a recent trip to visit my daughter and our new grand daughter. That did the trick. Then she confiscated my wife's EAD card, stamped her passport and we were out the door. The whole thing was about 15 minutes.

I was so disappointed that it was over after having prepared an extra set of everything for the interview. It took me over an hour to accept the fact her green card was approved. The reality settled in when she said, "Let's go shopping in the Russian stores since we're in town".

You made me smile... I see Angela in your description.

After nearly 6 months here, she now understands better how things work.

I usually answer her by saying "Welcome to America, the country of freedom and liberty, as long as you follow the rules, and by the way there is a rule for everything" :)

We joke about being free to apply for a permit to do whatever you want to do. After you pay the fee, of course!

So i notice the letter just restates to bring everything that was in my original packet ...

so the originals of all that junk should suffice or I would have received an RFE prior .. correct?

Do discount my reply based on our (Unconditional, since we'd be married >2 years) GC interview, but we went with original and copy of everything, in a bulging document folder we got at Office Max. Maybe that's one reason they asked nothing about documents and instead quizzed my wife on everything she should know about America.

We also may have had a tougher interview because Mr. retired Air Force interviewer was training someone else how to do these interviews, so there were actually two interrogators in the room.

Yep, as the instructions say, just bring everything that was in your packet.

Wow, lucky you! :)
