HI GUYS...WE GOT MARRIED ON JUNE 16 & AT THE SAME TIME WE REQUESTED FOR A CERTIFIED TRUE COPY ON THE SAME DAY THAT WE INTEND TO USE FOR THE I-485...WE WERE INFORMED IT TAKES 6 WEEKS TO BE RECORDED & ANOTHER 2 WEEKS FOR IT TO BE MAILED OUT....HOW WILL WE GO ABT SENDING OUR i-485(AOS) IF WE DONT HAVE AN ORIGINAL CERTIFIED TRUE COPY? SHOULD THE CUSTOMER'S COPY THAT WAS LEFT WITH US AFTER THE CEREMONY SHOULD BE ENOUGH? CAN WE USE THAT INSTEAD?MY K1 VISA EXPIRES ON AUG 12...IF WE ARE GOING TO WAIT FOR THE ORIGINAL CERTIFIED TRUE COPY WE WILL PROBABLY GET IT BY MID AUGUST...WE'D JUST LIKE TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN FILE THE I-485 BEFORE MY K1 EXPIRES...

Read the I-485 instructions. You only need to send in a regular photocopy of the marriage certificate. They can request the original and you WILL need the original for the interview.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

A photocopy of the Marriage Certificate is enough to send with the I-485 application. You will require the original at your AOS interview.

And you don't need to worry about your K-1 expiring. As long as you married within 90 days of your entry into the US, and apply for AOS as soon as you possibly can, the expiry date of the K-1 is not important.

Good luck for a speedy approval.

THANK YOU GUYS...YOU GAVE US PEACE OF MIND.....GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!

Hi:

I sent the original marriage certificate for my AOS (well, I confess I didn't read through the instruction..).

Then my AOS was approved without interview. Oh, they returned my original copy when AOS was approved.

I don't know I am just lucky or partly because I sent the original certificate.

Just a piece of information.

Yeah, I made that mistake when I applied for the K1. I sent in my original Certificate of Citizenship because it said it was illegal to photocopy it. Of course, I found out later that it was perfectly acceptable to send in a copy and thought that I would have to order a replacement for the original. But to my surprise, they promptly sent it back once my case was approved. They seem to be pretty good about that.
