Ugh, so my fiance received his K1 visa on Thursday through DHL. The visa came in the envelope that says to not open until he arrives in America where they will open it there and stamp it and put it into his passport. So he just went to the Cairo airport to purchase the tickets and they are telling him that they have never seen that envelope before and that he should have the visa in the passport. I heard that it was normal to have that envelope and I don't see how the embassy could have messed anything up, I just thought all of this chaos was over and he was going to be getting his tickets tonight. I don't know if they were just stupid at the airport or if there really is something wrong. I'm calling the emabssy in a few hours over there once they open, but until then if anyone could help me or give me some advice that would be great =]

The passport should carry a visa as well, he is given an I-94 at the point of entry and if he goes through JFK then he also gets the EAD(If that still works, not sure). If his passport doesn't have the K-1 visa on it then I would advice you to contact the embassy asap.

He should have received an envelope that says do not open plus his passport with the visa. The K-1 visa needs to be inside his passport. The visa should not be inside the envelope as that should not be opened, but he needs to have the visa to board the plane and enter the US. If the visa is not inside his passport he needs to go back to the consulate and have them put it in his passport. It should not be inside the envelope. The envelope contains his complete immigration file that he will carry to the US and deliver at the POE. There should be nothing inside of it that he needs. He does need the K-1 in his passport just to board the plane to the US if nothing else.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

ughhh that's what I was afraid of. There isn't the visa in the passport, and I dont understand why they would send him that envelope and his passport back if the visa wasn't in the passport, unless they made a mistake or something but I don't see how that would happen. I'm afraid now they're going to want him to send it back to the embassy, but hopefully he will just be able to go down there today and sort all this out. Well we're calling in about three hours so hopefully everything goes well =[

You should email the embassy NOW, so maybe they will get it and respond by Tuesday or so. My husband is from Egypt and like others, he had received his VISA in his passport. Thats where Visas are stamped.

Also, he is NOT supposed to open that brown envelope period!
