shipping question from the states, Cindy sent the I-134 (and the copies of everything) to me on the 2nd October, she has no tracking number, i fear its been sent the slowest way possable (first class mail), should i start to worry and get her to get it all together again and send it again? what are other peoples experiances with first class mail from the states to Australia? how long does it normally take?

its been almost 2 weeks and no sign of it, the police check has been sent and will arrive tomorrow, i have the medical, just waiting on the I-134, had it all planned to arrive about the same time then i find out how it was sent and i'm startig to panic ><

Hi Warren

We had a similar problem, but we had a tracking number. Turns out my fiance's packet was trapped in customs for over 2 weeks! I called them to find out what the issue was (I mean it was only documents, nothing for customs to hold onto). They told me there was a delay with all mail and they were about 2 weeks behind! Well, after a bit of a fuss I made them go and find it because it was sent Express International on Sept 26th and was guaranteed delivery by the 6th Oct (meanwhile it had been in customs since Sept 29th!)

When I finally got the packet (on Monday 12th) it was water damaged and the envelope was ripped, but thankfully the documents were in pretty good shape (only a bit crinkled)

What date did she send it? I would contact customs and ask them to look for it. It might be difficult without a tracking number, but if you can tell them when it was sent and all your details, they might be able to work it out.

Good luck!

I know, its frustrating when you can't just go ahead and book anything! At least now all we really need to book is the caterer, who don't need that much notice anyway, get a baker organised for our cake... and the celebrant, we already know who we are going to use, he specialises in last minute weddings :) We just need to tell him the date. I've been so lucky, I have many friends, or friends of friends who are willing to do my mum and I's hair and makeup, and a friend of mine who I worked with on my college newspaper will hopefully be doing our pics! Saves us money, and its so great to have people we already know and trust help us on the big day! Thank god I lived in LA for all that time, or I'd be screwed! Are you doing a lot of your stuff DIY, like your invites? Thats what I am doing, I can't wait to make them! I'm making my own veil too, with mum's help. We balked when we sa the pricetags on the ones at bridal salons. $150 for 15 dollars worth of tulle and a 20 cent hair comb. I'll pass!

Which bank are you going with....I am with Chase/WaMu, as is my fiance. They are PRICKS though, I've lost count of how many times we have been screwed by them. I really wouldn't mind switching to Wells Fargo, except it would be a right pain in the ####### for Alex, because of how many things he has linked to his bank....meh.

Miss Natalie, my wedding day twin, hopefully!! We're getting married in Santa Clarita, north of los angeles. Girl, we are all going to have to pass round our happy snaps as each of our big days roll around!

OOOOHH....just checked timeline projections...I can now expect an approval between October 31st and November 7!! holy ####### that is soon! I'm just hoping like crazy that I don't get stuck in any name checks or any thing....I have prior visa to the states and lived there for two and a half years, but I played by the rules perfectly. I've just heard that it can slow people down. I think I need to get calling my local panel doctor and cop shop to organise everything SOON!

I'm banking with Wells Fargo actually :P I received my card in the mail earlier in the week, I'm just waiting to receive my cheques. They shouldn't be too far away. It's good to read that you're thinking Wells Fargo 'cause that means we made a good choice :P We chose that bank though because it's in Texas AND Iowa. Tony's banks are eithe in IA or South Carolina and he said it's a HUGE pain if he needs to actually go INTO a bank. I signed up with the special deal that opens savings and checking and you set up a $25 transfer to happen once a month and there are no fees. i could have got the $75 a month transfer but I'm gunna wait till i get a full time job :D

Our wedding is going much the same as yours! Lots of people to help out along the way. The cake is a present from my FH's grandmothers sister. My veil came with my dress otherwise I agree :P The invites though I ordered from VistaPrint. It worked out pretty cheap. $1.75 per person for 80 invites, envelopes, RSVP's and RSVP envelopes. Otherwise we're not DIY'ing too much b/c things in Iowa are pretty cheap. Right now I'm stressing about hair, makeup and flowers... /sigh

November 7 approval date?? November 7 is a good date :P That's when we're getting married and that's in 21 days! :o:D I would get started on all the checks now too... can't hurt to be prepared 'cause then you can send of P3 really soon after receiving it. The reason ours took so long is waiting for the checks, and I even applied for the police check a week before receiving P3.

After reading this I had to go back and read your story about your interview day. OMG!!! How did you hold it together!!! Funny how the interviewer said, he heard that alot when it came to you guys meeting on wow. Same way Damo and I met. Your luck sounds so much like mine, I'm such a clutz and everything happens to me in threes, even my kids lol. Your story made me giggle, and cry.... you're a very good writer! Ever thought of it as a profession? rofl. Your interview was actually that short? I can imagine, them asking Damo when was the last time he saw me, and he responds 2 seconds ago, and points to me sitting behind him, lol. Hopefully we will get packet 3 this next week. Our papers went out on wednesday to the consulate. DHL tracking showed them flying out of LA yesterday, woot. Man Im rambling, sorry.

Have a good one guys!

Police check question everyone!

I lived in the United States from December 2006 to June 2009 on a student visa, with my (the boyfriend, now) fiance. On the Sydney Consulate site, it says that current and former residents of the US need not get a police check for their time in the US. Does this cover me, since I was considered a non resident in every sense, including when I filed taxes? Or resident just means "you physically lived in the country for however long."

If this helps, I was fingerprinted every time I came into the country (three times), and when I began working for the university I attended, I was fingerprinted by the local sheriff as part of the hiring process. It came back clean, of course :)

Hope all your visa journeys are going smoothly!

Hello :)

A question I wondered myself but NO you do NOT need a police check for the States :D

Here's a link: http://canberra.usembassy.gov/consular/visas/iv/fiance.html If you scroll down to police clearances it talks about how long in each country and whether you need a check. BUT the paragraph at the top says this: "Police certificates are required for each visa applicant aged 16 years or older. The table below shows how many police certificates are required based on where each applicant lives and has lived previously. Present and former residents of the United States should NOT obtain any police certificates covering their residence in the U.S."

The reason for that is when you are doing the petition, your case is sent to the FBI and Homeland Security and they do checks on BOTH of you. Anyone with a visa is bought up, they check to make sure your haven't done anything bad, no warrants, or charges or anything out on you and then it moves on.

But you are right in regards to "visitor" in another country but you would have needed to have stayed there for a period of 12 months or longer. Had you been in a country other than the US for your study then you would have needed a check because it was longer than 12 months.

Hope that helps :D

No no no. No losing hope. A LOT of people get RFE's. I know it's stressful to think about it happening to you but it's okay. Just breathe, get what you need, and then on to the next stage :D

What was your RFE for? Maybe we can help with ideas?

**HUGS** All will be fine. You'll be with your man soon!
