Welcome Letter same as Approval Notice?

Today is 30 days since my online case status update about the approval notice being mailed, but I thought I didnt get it yet. Now I'm thinking that the approval notice is the same as the welcome letter, is this correct?

Because on the welcome letter it says "This is to notify you that your application for permanent residence has been approved."

It confused me because I received my welcome letter like a week before I got the case update so it made me think I was getting 2 letters.

AOS Timeline

May 2/05 Mailed AOS Package

June 7/05 Received NOA1 for AOS

July 1/05 RFE received for no I-129F NOA2

July 6/05 Fingerprinting & Biometrics

July 7/05 Mailed I-824 to CSC

July 26/05 I-824 returned to us/error on application

July 28/05 I-824 mailed to CSC

Aug 11/05 NOA1 for I-824

Oct 11/05 Received I-797C for I-129F (FINALLY!)

Oct 13/05 Mailed I-797C (RFE) back to Lee's Summit

Dec 12/05 Received Interview Letter for March 29, 2006

Mar 14/06 Received letter about interview cancellation

I actually thought the Welcome Letter and Approval Notice were two different things. We first found out our AOS was approved when the case status updated to say that the Welcome Letter had been mailed to us. We ended up getting the I-797C Notice of Action approval letter first and the Green Card followed a few weeks later. We still haven't received the Welcome Letter, but it's not really important.

Does anyone know if the approval notice is needed for when you lift conditions on your Green Card? I would think it would be good to have for your file irregardless.

I would think it would be worth calling and letting them know you haven't received it. At least they could tell you whether or not you really need it. The important thing is actually getting your Green Card :)

The approval notice is a form I-797 or I-797c, similar to the approval notices for other petitions and applications submitted to the USCIS.

The I-797 is the Welcome to America letter right? It looks like other notices as Yodrak stated, and it says Welcome to America.

Basically the I-797 is the Welcome to America letter which is also the approval notice, right? It's all the same.
