Her name on Vietnamese Passport is TRAN THI HEO MAP

My aunt (a Social Worker) said to write as HEOMAP THI TRAN or HEO-MAP THI TRAN (First, Middle,Last) and I'll opt to use HEO-MAP THI TRAN on the Pentition. I've been looking at all the forms up until Interview step and filling them out "mentally"..

My dilemma: on DS-156 they ask for " 7. First and Middle Names (as in Passport) " I want to be consistent thru out all the paperworks but it did say "As in Passport". No such thing as "too careful" when it's HCMC rite!!

Let me know what you guys have done on yours and if there were any complications...Thanks!

I hope this post will help future HCMC VJs when they do a search on "Vietnamese name"..I'm sure someone else will be confused as I am

Family name Tran

First Name Heo-Map

Middle Thi

Your aunt is correct.. Just keep which words are associated with first middle and last somewhere and whenever they ask.. you will have it right...

When I was filling out her 325 A and the 129F I went bonkers at first because her name is actually Anh but that is awkward for a woman so she goes by her middle name Thuy.. so I assumed it was first name.. I wrote down the names on a piece of paper and associated them with first middle and last and when asked i have what they want.. If the ask first and last.. then that is what you put...

You can dowload all of the docs and fill them out ahead of time to be sure you know what needs to be done and how .. down the road

Wait are you messing with us? Her first name is Heo Map? Was her parents mad at her for some reason when they were naming her? Why would someone name their kid "fat pig"? I never heard of someone named that before...

I don't judge... hell some of the names people give their kids here isnt far off of that...

Here is my POV think of it like this. " fat pig thi tran" is how we refer to someone full name. Fat-Pig should be considered as a double first name followed by middle and last. For example, the actor Jaun-Clade V..... , or John-Paul, or Hill-Billy Bob Thorton. When refered to as last name first , It should be exact reverse. "Mr. Thorton Bob Billy Hill. I dont think it wise to shuffle at your decrestion, but think it out logically. Might cause potential problems if visa dosent exactly match passport. Hope my post help, or confuses you even more. Good Luck

Pention: HEO-MAP THI TRAN (First, Middle, Last)

DS156K: HEO-MAP THI TRAN

DS156 - "7. First and Middle Names": MAP HEO THI ?? (same as Vietnamese Passport but different with DS156K,Pentition)

---------------------------------------- or: HEO-MAP THI ?? (same as DS156K, Pentition but different from Passport)

Which one won't get me in trouble down the road?? Maybe it doesn't even matter at all...I hope.

HELP?

Look at it this way.. Its backwards on the passport... If you are required to have first and middle then you will write Heo-Map Thi

That's what I'd like to do but it says "As in Passport"...I guess I'm just too paranoid  .. It probably won't be a problem. Thanks !! B) .

Just swap the first word (family name) and last word (given name). Everything in the middle just leave alone and call it the middle name.

Speaking of names, just WHO put the HO in HO Chi Minh??

I think this is the third time I've seen you post this, or something similar. If this is supposed to be funny, then I'm not getting the joke.

It doesn't matter how hard you try your wife name to be correct. It will eventually will be wrong in the future. My wife has 4 name like your wife.

I am trying to be 101% perfect with my wife name on all the paperwork. The Visa is wrong with her spelling name, and now her SSN is totally wrong. I will give you an example. The main thing you should worry about her VISA name is correct, and all the paperwork is correct.

My wife name in Vietnamese is Tran Thi Heo Map.

USCIS, and NVC are first = Heo-Map, Middle = Thi, Last = Tran. I called USCIS, and NVC many many time making sure they are spelling my wife name correct in English first name Heo-Map. After the interview, and Visa received.

Visa = Map Tran Thi Heo.

SSN = Map Tran (ONLY 2 words)

I have told her when she arrived at the airport. MAKE SURE to let them know her first name is Heo-Map. She did, now her SSN is Map Tran, and I have to wait for her GC arrived will fix both of them at the same time.

Good luck. Hope that help.

Just becareful with her first name is Heo-Map. Pig-Fat.

I was gonna use that too (MAP for First name) but I wanted to keep the full first name of Heo-Map..By the way, good luck with your process..I'll follow closely since yours is a recent HCMC I129F..

hniHnitsuJ:

Perhaps the person (you?) filled out DS156 didn't use Heo-Map? I think the Visa is based on that and then everything else in the States is based on the Visa. DS156 says "as in (Vietnamese) Passport" so maybe the problem starts there if we don't stick with Heo-Map...I'm gonna stick with Heo-Map all the way so I can keep her Viet first name ..

Thanks for the info! Congrats on your recent Visa journey success and best of luck to both you and the wife!

Thanks for the well wishes! I started studying the process months before submitting the application, and spent a good month preparing the petition package. I'm going to test my theory that the more you prepare, the more things go wrong! :P

My fiancee's name was easy. She has only three, and two of them are "Nguyen Thi", like half the other girls in VN. :D
