Hi. It's been quite a while since I last posted here. I miss the days of being in front of the PC to get news and updates from the VJ community. Hi to all, esp. my batchmates. How are you doing? To those who are still waiting, I tell you, once you are over it, yes, it's a relief but at the same time, you will miss the excitement of waiting, too!

My questions: I've been in the US for a month now and I still do not know how I get to receive my greencard. On my passport, it was noted on the visa that it served as temporary greencard only. I alraedy received the welcome note from the USCIS and have applied for my SS card ( I was not able to apply for ity while applying for visa.) When I did apply for the SS, I tried to use my husband's surname but I was advised at the SS office to use my maiden name for now while I do not have the greencard yet. I was also told that once the greencard is with me already, that is the time I request for change of name on my greencard, SS, driver's license and other ID's and documents. Again, my question is, where do I get the actual greencard and where?

Thank you very much to all of you who would take time to reply to my question(s).

God bless.

Your PR/Green Card should arrive in the mail (via USPS) within a matter of a few weeks of arriving - recently there was a system 'problem' with card production that caused some delay - you may be feeling a bit of that as a result - your card should be there soon.

Depends what you put in the green card application - if you went with only the maiden name that's the card you will get. If you used your husband's last name it will be on the card. What does it say on your visa? The name change on GC is done via I-90 with $380 fees (check uscis.gov form for the correct fees).

The GC will come eventually - if you received the Welcome notice try going online to check case status using the receipt number from the notice. The USCIS upgraded card-production equipment in May and they were lagging behind for 8 weeks. You can use your visa/temp GC in the meantime and still use the married name.

Sorry for the mistake. I didn't realize I posted two previous replies and none of what I wanted to say... $380?! Oh my, that's a lot! I don't remember them asking on any of the immigration forms my choice of name on the greencard. I have always used my maiden name in the visa application process. My visa has my maiden name, too. My welcome notice has my maiden name, too. Well, thanks, I might as well keep my maiden name for now.
