I love that people here have such a hard-on for their little partisan mud flinging that they'll actually defend a screwball like Palin.

Would anyone seriously vote for that?

Well, count me in as an idiot then. I would vote for her if she ran in 2012. The screwball image is nothing more than liberal attacks that have been circulated until they are believed. If you take the time to really look at what she has done in her job you will find she is very competent. She has had 80% approval ratings in Alaska. You don't get that if your the moron she is made out to be.

No they aren't Gary, that's just it.

Certainly Palin has been the subject of a lot of attacks in the media (not least from her own party which tried to blame her for the failure of McCain's Presidential bid), but the fact that she appeared on TV appearing totally clueless about national politics and couldn't answer simple questions related to that and to the broad thrust of the McCain campaign showed how woefully underpowered she is.

We've had 8 years of one of the worst presidents in modern times, and if Palin gets similar support then we won't have learned our lesson.

I have no doubt that that GOP has well qualified, charismatic people in its ranks, but Palin really isn't it. She's a real life Looney-Tune!

I say again, look at what she has done in Alaska. The accomplishments are not one of a "looney-tune". If you judge her by the things she said in an interview then why did Biden get elected with Obama? He has a very long record of totally looney-tune remarks.

Biden is a goof - but he was always in the background (where he should have been).

From what I saw at least one of the problems with the McCain campaign was that they put Palin in the foreground (over McCain) because again the main reason she was selected was to give McCain's "Maverick" rhetoric a youthful polish. That meant that there was a certain expectation on Palin to at least justify the importance placed on her - and she failed to do it. We're not talking the odd gaffe here - but that she was demonstrably unable to pitch the campaign platform and appeared clueless on national TV about frontline politics.

Part of that could have been that she wasn't coached very well - but that isn't really much of an excuse when it comes to one of the most prominent and most closely scrutinised political appointments there is. You can't afford to not know what you're talking about.

"Always in the background". Yeah. He's only the VP of the United States. Very low profile.

I was talking about him being in the background of the campaign.

If you're marketing a Rolling Stones concert, you don't promote the warm-up act over the main event. That's what the McCain campaign did - put inordinate emphasis on Palin and she wasn't able to deliver on it.

Is Palin the "best" that the GOP has to offer?

Well, if she was, the GOP would be in real trouble. Fortunately for the GOP, she isn't.

Of course she isn't, I just wonder why GOP supporters here are so quick and eager to jump in the political sack with her. They must surely know their own party better than we do

Like I said before, from your perspective she isn't someone you would vote for. Perspective is everything.

Obviously she had the male vote but if McCain picked his opponent Mitch Romney like Obama picked Biden then he would have had the sex appeal to the women, the youthful injection to the vote, and someone smart enough to know what they're talking about.

Palin was not put in the foreground of the campaign to appeal to youthful Mavericks.

She was put in the foreground to get the female vote.

According to a CNN poll regarding possible 2012 contenders from February Palin has a 10-point edge among Republican women. With 32% support among them to 22% for Huckabee and 20% for Romney. So she is definitely popular among at least Republican women.

"With the sampling error, that's not enough to say for sure that Palin is in the lead, but it does indicate that if the primaries were held tomorrow, Palin would have a good chance of being the favorite among GOP women."

What is it about Palin that has so fixated the Left?

As you read every post in this thread you can't find a solid criticism of her other then... "she is dumb".

When people attack(ed) Obama they cite reasons and policy and , even so there lacks the desperate-hate towards Obama... one senses with Palin.

I think it all began on Palins "coming out speech", you remember this one.

type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>">

Where for the first time she seems to put a "pulse" into McCains dead-pan campaign.

(n fact the only pulse it ever had).

IF this woman is no threat..... why the all-out effort to squash her, even in the most personal ways?

Heck just look at the bottom of this page and see "who keeps talking about her"

look at the people who keep posting threads about her here on VJ, ......her supporters?

Nope the :LEFT:

They are scared for a reason. Their reaction to her alone should send a message to moderates and conservatives alike.

Q: Come'on lets be honest...

What is it about Palin that makes the left spend so much energy on her?

As if being dumb isn't reason enough for the GOP. *palm to forehead* Denial is not just a river in Egypt. Guh, you all can do better than her.

Guh: a word that expresses confusion or annoyance. A word expressing angst or despondence, frequently used online as a type of sigh.

Speaking of denial.......

Okay, now I understand, all the effort is based on your concern that "we" field the best candidate.

(wink..... gott'cha)
