I have heard the USCIS will forgive late filing of AOS, but we were almost 9 months late for the AOS of our daughter. Anyone else have a similar experience? Hope that isn't causing too much delay or a denial! :o

Hmmm. Is there a transparent reason that some people don't have to interview? Should you worry if you do? What should be expected at an interview? Should probably start getting prepared...

From what I've gathered they don't interview about 50% of K-1's. I'm not sure why, maybe because our spouses have already been interviewed once? No, you definitely shouldn't worry! At an interview you should take tangible evidence of your life together as a married couple along with a copy of your entire packet-

Wow! I didn't know that. That was going to be my next question, what does it mean to be transferred? lol. If Sam doesn't need an interview that would be a miracle for us. This whole process was so difficult for us as we got a 221g on the K-1 and was expecting the worse. But we overcame that hurdle with our mountain of evidence. Maybe they saw our mushy love letters and decided that we don't need any inteview, lol j/k

I know what you mean - Onur was in Administrative Processing for 6 months...it was awful. So hard for both of us. Hope AOS is much swifter and easier! At least we are together now.

At an interview you should take tangible evidence of your life together as a married couple along with a copy of your entire packet-

A lease or mortgage agreement or signed affidavit of someone stating you live together

Wedding photos, holiday, family, event photos

Joint Bank/credit card statement

Utility bills in both names

Driver's licenses showing same address

Joint Bank/credit cards with same numbers different names

Both Birth certs and passports for each of you

I read somewhere the kind of questions are usually pretty basic, similar to the Embassy interview:

Where do you live? Where do you work? Where are your parents? When did you get married? Who was there? That sort of thing.

Just to add to this, here's a standard interview summary: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=182281

And I just found this: including a list of reasons for suspicion http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=154623 Julia, perhaps if they can see that you have no red flags you get passed off to CSC with no interview... seems likely to me.

Well, the only "red flag" I see is that my husband is from Turkey, a middle eastern country: "If the alien spouse is a Middle East male, expect tough questioning or worse."

Probably the reason he was in AP for 6 months too. They say his name was "red-flagged" in their system which required them to submit him to more security clearance/name-check.

We don't have the much in the way of joint accounts right now, as he does not have his EAD yet and I am the one working and paying the bills and rent. Maybe we should look into opening a joint account where we'll keep our savings/wedding money (we're having our big wedding in Sept.) Can I put his name on our utility bills easily? I'll try to see if I can get his name on our rent contract too.

Yeah I'm not surprised really at much profiling they do at USCIS. I guess it's your own fault if you get burned and you don't do anything about it... tough for legit couples tho.

As far as joint accounts, my husband and I opened a joint bank account and it was super easy, there was no minimum deposit and it only took about 10 minutes. You should at least check into it, and putting your wedding money there sounds like a great idea. I also added my husband onto one of my credit cards. They will give him a hard time if you go for "joint" as opposed to "additional user" though, if he doesn't have a credit report. As for utility bills, sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's not. You should check online first in the bill pay area, if you use online bill pay. If you can't find it there call them. Utility companies typically are a lot easier to deal with than a credit card company. But don't be surprised if they say the bill needs to be in only one name. It happens. Just do your best to get as many on the list as you can. You have a few months so don't stress too much. Be sure to take lots of photos with you and him together, preferably with your parents/kids/relatives, or identifiable places/things in the background. For example, We visited Niagara Falls and took a photo of us in front of the falls together. Kind of hard to deny that we were there together, you know? Or if you went to a theme park, take a photo with a roller coaster in the background.

And hey, you never know, you might get transferred to CSC and it won't matter anyway! :star:

Just reading up at all the stuff Julia and I are talking about with the joint accounts and whatnot... Does anyone get annoyed that you have to do all this ####### yourself just to prove you're legit, and to top it off your spouse can't even help you? I mean, I get so crazy mad thinking about all the ####### we have to do just to prove we're a real couple, meanwhile he's sitting at home not working, going stir crazy, we're broke as a joke because of the cost of AOS plus supporting two people on one income, and I have to take days off work to run around and do paperwork at places that aren't open on Saturday. And I wouldn't have to go to those places anyway if it weren't for stupid USCIS! ARG! I just want to be able to live our lives together in peace.

That is all. :sigh:

Well the good news is we are now in the on line system. The bad news is that it tells us there is an RFE on the I 485 :(

The letter was supposedly sent on Friday so I guess we will just have to wait and see what sort of idiotic mistake we made on the form :P

I swear you go word blind checking it 45 times and miss stupid stuff - oh well - time will tell.

hxxr - it seems it is just the way it is here, I don't know what else to say other than keep smiling. Anyone that goes through this without being a genuine couple are truly mentally ill

You are preaching to the choir! I just keep telling myself "this is only temporary" to get me through it. I surely could not continue to live like this for long! We are barely making ends meet every month - even if he was working a minimum wage job, we would be MUCH better off. He feels like a house-husband, and I am the bread-winner...a position neither of us want to be in! Now, I wouldn't want it to be the reverse either - just want to both be contributing in all ways. Soon I hope!

That's EXACTLY how my husband feels! I enjoy having a house-husband to do the chores, but I'd rather have him earning ANY money to help make ends meet. We just spent most of our weekend figuring out how to stretch $200 to buy enough parts to make a new computer (we're technicians). We're using the euro he brought over as a supplement but that'll end soon enough if he doesn't get his EAD in September. :stressstressstress:
