Kimmy - Yep, my perception which is not based on facts. Thanks to God I'm opened minded and open to hearing positive stories.

I really don't know how a mother in the position of deciding whether her child goes abroad feels.

But I guess, part of the Jamaican way of life is that mothers and fathers go abroad leaving their children and children go abroad to their mothers or fathers as soon as the parent gains a foothold.

It is an accepted an familiar occurrence. It is also something that is built up as wonderful, as kids we were all envoius of those whose parents filed for them and went abroad.

I think as well, as selfish as I am as a mother, if I realized truly the best thing was for the child to go abroad, that would ease the pain of parting.

My vest friend has been in England for almost 7 years, she hasn't seen her daughter for 4.

I cannot imagine how that feels. But she says she endures for the greater good.

So really, we should take out hats of to the mothers who love their kids dearly (yes I know it's often easier to think they don't love them as much) but make the choice for them to move away for a better life.

On another note...

Obviously I don't know your individual stories, but I do wonder why it seems the MAJORITY of people's SO's baby mothers are depicted as being incompetent/money grabbing monsters. In reality, I find MOST mothers are good mothers. Perhaps not good spouses, but LOVE their kids.

Story I wrote lol...

Some of you may have seen it already...

The Return

I guess as an American woman, I cannot phantom the idea of leaving my child behind. However, that is from the standpoint that we as Americans are generally able to move around relatively freely, and there is a lot of opportunity here so we don't have to make that difficult decision. I don't understand a mother leaving her child as a baby...and never once filing for them. Then, we they are well grown...she wants them to feel some type of alliance to them or like they should now do for her.

You are a wonderful writer as I have always said...beautiful story. Reminds me of the CNN special "Obama's Voyage to Africa" I can't recall the name right now. But, they were talking about young children being sold into slavery right now in Haiti to "Aunts" that abuse the children in the exact same way as your story. I cried then...and I cried reading your story.

I love children...and I don't like to think of children going hungry or going without. I will do whatever it takes to make sure my children are taken care of...regardless of what their fathers decide to do for them. I can't understand a woman that will allow her babies starve to prove a point. I agree with Kimmy that certain behavior from her wouldn't have happened if A didn't nurture the behavior...which is why we fight.

jawi i am almost in tears over this

this is so unfair

i am praying for you

My sentiments exactly. :( Can’t remember which type of leave you took this time, but from a previous coworker at my job I remember they couldn’t even let her back without the doctors release. So how can you go in on Monday unless the doctor releases you what today. When I use to work in Disability/Absence Management and an employee had to return to work we often tried to work with the employee’s restrictions. Maybe they can let you come back to modified duties, part-time work, or working from home, or if your job can’t be performed as an off-site employee then maybe they can give you another position that can be modified. At least you keep your job and your years of service and can still accrue time. This is so saddening when you are truly someone who needs this time and is not just taking advantage of the circumstances. My prayers are with you. (F)

Thank you. I appreciate it. I haven't been released and the doctor's office is closed today. I will probably use a sick day for Monday until I get released.

I mean to post my silly question on the yardie thread! (sorry all, I'm still getting used to this website)

Were days away from filing - should we get a lawyer? Anyone do this on their own- advice? I don't want to make any mistakes...

Lady Ats...you have asked this question 50,000 different ways on the board. You are going to have to take a leap of faith and jump out there and get your feet wet. Once you get through the process, you will realize that you made this process wayy bigger than it is. Many women and men in Jamaica leave young children/dependents behind to come to the States, with the hopes that their children will follow later. It is not a red flag to the Embassy IMHO.

I don't think I can recall a yardie filer that used a lawyer...at least not since I have been on the boards...JG has been here for a long time and she said that most of us filed on our own.

I would suggest take your time to read the guides...start a practice run of the paperwork...and ask any questions you have as you go along. There will be someone that will know the answer.

Couldn't it be he thinks he is now able to provide? maybe he distant himself b/c he never had much..of course not an excuse, but that is difficult to judge..would we now say that if a man who is very close to his kids is trying to get a GC if he leaves them to come here?

Just to be clear..I never said mothers don't love their kids if they send them over to live with step-parents.

In my case I see exactly why Kashi wants his girls..and I say his girls b/c they are for sure not mine. I absolutely love them as I do my own, but lets be real here. She needs to man up and take care of them. If Kashi was waiting on here to call so he can speak to them...it would be every 2 weeks or as something comes up..Ridiculous..u a grown azz woman go get a job! Help! But a fi him fault.

And English, some of these mothers are not good..they can't wait to pass off their children to go run the streeets.

At the risk of being called a bandwagoner...I agree with everything you posted Kimmy. This subject is depressing me...
