Ells you get a star for the day!!! :star:

:blush::thumbs:

i think it is nice for them to connect with other jamaicans but i don't believe in trying to replicate or duplicate jamaica here in the states.....mainly because it can't be done. jamaica is jamaica and the states are the states. my husband has connected better with americans than he has jamaicans since he has been here and prefers american clubs vs. jamaican ones. not saying he forgot where he comes from but he has to accept his new life and understand the states is not jamaica and never will be....why not just enjoy and take advantage of all that we (and our cities) have to offer?

Very true.

i know. i'm just saying i've done my fair share of running around too and worrying about whether my husband was going to be truly happy here. i came to the realization that my husband is happy with trying new things and meeting new people and just being with me no matter where we are.

just don't kill yourself out. how about trying something new together? i got my husband to go to yoga class w/me...

I'm glad mister is open to trying new things too....it makes the whole adjustment a little bit easier.

LOL @ the heating blanket. I have a fur blanket I use , he calls it a bear and dares me to let it touch him

I want a Water Ice and a Philly cheese pretzel

That sounds sooooo GOOD!

I have this new project that is 500 line items and I have to populate all the specs for each item and finding this information in this database is nuh easy! I am only on line 87 I feel like mi gawn drap :blink:

That would make me go :wacko:

It's stuff like that that made me decide not to get into the IT field.

grapenut has got to be one of the worst flavors ever

my husband tried devon house rum and raisin and said it had too much rum  isn't that the point? lmao

you crazy....grapenut is di bomb!

smiley-sick015.gif

 @ the smiley

But I do love me some grapenut too! I wonder if it would be as simple as buying a box of grapenuts & mixing it with vanilla ice cream here.

I'm okay. I just found out from the company that handles my disability pay, that if I get approved for long term disability...I will no longer be on the payroll with my job, and I would have to reapply for work after my long term disability ended in two years. #######!!!!??? So, if I don't go to work Monday...I will be fired.

I can't loose my job of 11 years...so I will go in...force myself to work doped up on all kind of pills. This sucks so bad. Please pray for me that I have little to no pain...and that my neck begins to heal...Please...I need all the prayers I can get.

Jawi, this is terrible news. I'm so sorry to read this. I hope & will pray that everything works out for you. This is not the time for you to have to deal with this. (L)

I'm home...dry and clean...getting ready to shimmy.

Finesse - I agree. I stressed myself about Damien's adjustment to the US for nothing. He adjusted well.

Jawi - (F) Now you see why I was so upset about my two co-workers - one hasn't stepped foot in our office in an year and still getting paid. The other one has been out since March still getting paid...not getting charged 1 minutes of annual or sick leave...crazy. Claims they are working from home....whatever.

I saw the other side of it honestly. A lot of my co-workers don't believe there is anything wrong with me...even when they saw the x-rays, the neck brace and all the pills. I was still faking. They even told me that I shouldn't need vacation time since I have been off so long. No heart...no compassion...just assumed that I have been in Jamaica the whole time.

So when you posted that a while back, I thought you were judging your co-workers situation without really knowing what was going on with them. Then, you explained that you knew way more than I thought you knew...so I did get your point then.

The sad thing is that I have co-workers that use disability stress leave every year around Thanksgiving and Christmas and they have NO problems getting the time off...six months at a time EVERY single year....just because they see pink ponies and want to jump across cubes to stab somebody. Now, they are fine all year until they are ready to be off at the end of the year. Abusers like that always seem to get around the system...but honest people that need the time can't get a break. I have had to fight for my benefits from day 1.

But, Satan is a liar and I'm still thankful for my blessings. I am thankful that the disability woman informed me before she approved LTD...she could have just approved it, and let it happen. So I am thankful.

i can't believe this jawi..

okay so lets say u are able to go in and work a few hours?? will u still get ur long term dib??? this is crazy..

much prayer for u honey.. God has not brought u this far to leave u.. you will make it..

I believe this too Quana. I can't believe that I have never had an attendance problem...went to work every day on time even worked on the weekends if they needed me. I have always been a top performer...so much so that my productivity numbers as a rep could not be included when they set the parameters for other reps to meet. Now, I get sick and it boils down to them forcing me back into work or loose my job. 11 long years with not one single write up or discplinary action.

I will talk to HR tomorrow to see if they will be okay with me work 5-6 hours per day as a salaried employee.

I'm okay. I just found out from the company that handles my disability pay, that if I get approved for long term disability...I will no longer be on the payroll with my job, and I would have to reapply for work after my long term disability ended in two years. #######!!!!??? whaaaaaaaaaaaaat? this does not sound good esp when your doctor said no work for 6 weeks

are u gonna consult with your doctor about this?

I'm trying to get the doctor to okay me going back. I have to be released for work...or my job will send me back home.

jawi - sorry to hear of your troubles. wow, my heart goes out to you. i never knew (or asked) what happened to you.....what kind of surgery did you have?

Finesse I had neck surgery last November and I didn't heal from it...so they had to do a 2nd more intense surgery last month. I was cut in the front and back of my neck. I can't even swallow food without chewing it to mush or I will choke to death. I'm in pretty bad shape...but I guess it doesn't matter. I don't know how I'm going to drive since I haven't even been released to drive yet.

damn, so sorry to hear this....sounds like quite the ordeal, one that seems to be never ending. wish we lived closer...i could give you a ride

my brother had serious back surgery last year and was in so much pain...i had to cart him around for months. he ended up healing well but was hooked on painkillers which he had to go to rehab for....not fun.

I don't know the real name for it...but basically they get approved for it to prevent having a "nervous breakdown" due to job related stress. Of course they get labeled for it later, and it becomes virtually impossible for them to get promotions...because that will be one of the interview questions. How do you handle stressful situations or something to that effect.

Thanks Finesse. I try to limit the amount of pills I take because of that. I have been on pills everyday since last year. I dealt with the pain before surgery for a full year. So I have been dealing with this since 2007. I love my job and I think I can handle the work load...it's just the driving and traffic that scare me. I ended up in pain from sitting in traffic for hours and having to turn my head back and forth so often.

Question for those of you whose SO/spouses have children: This has come up alot here, and I was just wondering...I see that many of you have plans to have your spouse's/SO's children come to live with you, but how do their mother's REALLY feel? It seems to me that once the SO is up here that it's assumed or automatic that the children will follow, but really are the kids, mothers, grandmothers, aunts, or whatever truly ok and comfortable w/ this? I mean I understand the underlying premise, that they will have more opportunities & better way of life (which to me really is relative), but is it really in the best interest of EVERYONE involved? Are we imposing our "American" values and beliefs about what's "best"? How does the conversation go with the birth mother? Any resistance or opposition any experienced? And what about starting out w/ a trial first--like a visitor's visa (may be easier for a child to get, not sure) to test if the child really does like the US, will thrive here, etc? Just some random thoughts that I'm having...honest answers and input would be greatly appreciated. Edited by Mrs. Palmer

That's a good point... just remember that everything works together for the good!

Mrs, Palmer, I bet it depends on the mother. If the mother is a person who has a lot of kids and has a new man in her life, she may be relieved to have one less. But I'm sure most mothers aren't like that.

Tonight I got to step out of my comfort zone & go to a networking event. I HATE HATE HATE going to events where you just mingle with people. But the thought of it was way worse than the actual event. I usually skip those, but I had to go tonight cause I was on the program to speak. My speech went VERY well. I spoke about my experience in the mentor program & used an analogy: The company is like a country. We each work in our own city & know what's going on in our city and possibly our state. By participating in programs like the mentoring program, or even the network event tonight, we get to know people that work in other cities. We can start seeing the highways that connect us which lead to us having a better view of the company.

I had two people tell me afterward that they will use that same analogy in their upcoming speeches.

In regard to my stepdaughter, we all sat down and discuss the options. Her mom agreed for her to come up when time and she would cover the expense from the Jamaica side. Now, the daughter and hubby talk every sunday and she ALWAYS ask when can she come up. Hubby would like her to come up on visitor visa..because he is not working and doesn' think the expense should be all on me. I think both parents have to agree about the child just up and move here.

Do you think it is a red flag if the fiance or spouse is pushing to bring their child over with them when they didn't have a strong relationship with the child? Whew...long question.
