That is so wonderful! What a great backround your kids have! Tierra's father did a geneology and found out he had an asian background as well. It so interesting.

I think bringing Tierra to St Lucia for 6 months was such a great oppurtunity. I jumped at the chance. She has been so many places most 7 year olds have never heard of!

Did he do that here? What company (if you don't mind sharing)? I'm thinking to have my genealogy traced eventually.

His wife did it. I will ask her and let you know.

Ok, I just called her. She is a wealth of information! She said she has been working on her own geneology since '93! Her grandmother was full blooded Shawnee Indian! cool stuff!

So anyway... she used ancestry.com, rootsweb, and finally for the most info she used national genographic association (or society) ... paid $99 and they did Tierra's father's background. It took some time and you check the progress online. They go back thousands of years. Turns out Tierra is part Irish also and her 6th great grandfather was a white irishman who fell in love with a black woman. Their children helped found Anne Arundel county in Maryland! Left 400 acres of land (which is now part of Laurel MD) to his black grandchildren.... Laurel MD is where Tierra's father grew up.

This stuff is so interesting.. gives me goosebumps!

My father did a lot of our geneology through ancestry.com - he used to sit at the computer for hours, reading the census bureau reports, ellis island landing documents - so long that he would fall asleep, lol. You have to talk to family, gather all the info you can - ancestry is a good site for it because there is a wealth of info there on where to look.

Nat - we have discovered one problem with our housekeeper, lol - She, and the girls that work for her, are little - every time after they come, we find spiders everywhere = they stir them up from wherever they hide, then they go towards the ceiling - the girls never look up! By the time we come home, there's always a web!

I was going to invest in tracing my genealogy through ancestry.com but then I started taking trips to JA and all extra funds started going there. My son was like, hey mom what ever happened to finding out where we are really from? I was like ooooh yeah, about that. He just looked at me liked :bonk: . Still it’s definitely something I want to do for myself and my kids seem to have taken a real interest in it too so I’m sure they will continue to pass it down. But I thought it was like $500 … $99 really, that’s it? :wow:
