Hey everyone,

I would really love it if you guys could help me... I wondered if It was Ok to visit my fiancee in the USA while we are waiting to be approved??

I would love to know if you guys have been able to do this as I have rang my embassy for advise and USCIS, and what did they tell me....... Nothing they just kept p[assing me back and forth and I am now at the stage of pulling my hair out. I mean I have proof I am going to return to the Uk, plus I would need to anyway for Medical etc but that is a long way off!!! All I want to do is spend a few weeks with the guy I love but if it is going to mess up this whole process I won't risk it...

Please help me...

Thank you.... :crying:

I'm doing DCF but my husband has had to return to the US to start work, after we started the visa application. I'm visiting him at the moment, the immigration guy at the airport just asked a few questions which I answered honestly, he never even asked for proof of return ticket, something I have been asked for before. I also had proof that I was still renting property in the UK, had a job to return to and my visa case number with medical date, he wasn't interested in seeing any of it. Glad I brought it with me though.

Good luck

As long as you have, as the border patrol officers put it, "strong ties to [originating country]", they'll let you in.

It's easier for us Canadian folks as we don't have to apply for a visitor's visa, but it does provide more of a scare when actually going through Customs as you never know if or when you'll be turned back. (I have been, once. It wasn't fun.)

Having money helps a lot (bank statement or cold, hard [uSD] cash), as does a lease. They actually gave me a checklist when I was rejected back in 2005; if I can find that, I'll post it here.

Also, make sure you go online and apply for ESTA, I was asked for that at Heathrow. Only takes a few minutes and approval was instant and then just printed it off. They recommend you do that at least 72 hours before travel. (though I only did mine the night before cos I'd only just got new passport)

Hi all,

I just crossed the border last week (through the airport POE). The customs officer just asked where I was going. I said for a 5-day vacation in Oregon. Then he asked when was the last time I entered and I said in May. And he let me through. So just give them what they need. Don't make things that complicated. Hope that helps.

I think that's the best way to be, just answer what is asked, show what they ask to see...and if they don't ask don't complicate things unnecessarily. Is worth being prepared just in case though.

Thank you all ever so much for your advise, I am so glad I found this site... I tell you I was in floods of tears yesterday by the amount of messing about I had by the USCIS and the Embassy in London.. I really can not thank you all enough.. You have all put my mind at ease.

The border officers are pretty scary and I don't even think they realise it, yes I am fully aware why they have to be like that so I understand but I got alot of attitude last time even though I had proof I have a lot of reasons to come home.. I totally understand they have a really hard job to keep your borders safe etc, but damn it man anyone who is going through this process will not want to mess up, I mean it's a long enough process as it is to be with the person you love.. But god it will be worth it...

I don't think anyone going through this would want to over stay their welcome just on case they mess it all up...

Thank you all
