Some help regarding Cosponsor Information

Hi All,

I used to know this but I have to ask this again as my AOS interview is almost around the corner.

1) We are including a friend of my wife as co-sponsor. As afr as I know she has to fill up the I-864 and include her 3 yrs simple tax returns from the IRS. Right ?? What is the phone number to call to recieve the simple tax returns or what is the exact term they are called ??

2) She is single but she shd consider the amount that is for 125% above poverty level for 2, as because she & me makes it 2 . Right ??

3) I have several things form my homeland to prove that I had no intent to stay back here. SOme of them being My papers from my homeland such as bank accounts, provident fund accounts , health insurance that i still pay , electircity and phone bills that i pay, life insurance that is still paid etc etc. Now these were sent by my relatives five - six months earlier. So do i need to show most present ones or old ones wd do ?

I wd appreciate all helps.

1. As far as i know u dont even need the tax return from the IRS, u can bring her personal copy (the copy that was prepared by the tax preparer). I think the IRS copy will take weeks before u get it. Im not sure about the phone numbers but im sure you'll see it on their website.

2. Yes her income should be 125% of household size that includes you.

3. If its not too much trouble for your relatives to send the latest copies of your bills back home, have them mail it. These are not required documents but the burden of proof is on you, its always better to be ready.

A small other query. Someone here said that the thing we have to write in current household income and the last 3 years income in I-864 is the one before taxes .But then its also the line 22 or line 37 from form 1040, which is the adjusted gross income. But then line 22 is after taxes. So which one is considered line 22 & 37 or line 16b of the tax form 1040 ? May be silly question but I am a bit puzzled, though during the application we filled the I-864, with the amount from line 22 of 1040. All help wd be appreciated

Here's the info for getting IRS transcripts if you need them. They are free, and take no more than a couple of weeks to get. This way everything is on one page, and you don't have to worry about submitting tax forms and W2's and whatever else.

Shouldnt your co sponsor fill I-864A instead of I-864? And the income you need is line 22

Thanks Furiousnq . As far as I know the Cosponsor has to fill up a I-864 too. I-864A is only when the household member is a cosponsor.

I just needed to know my wifes friend is being our cosponsor. Now she is providing the following :

ii) In I-864 part 3, I clicked on question 8 , shd i click on Yes ? she is the only cosponsor.

iii) May be i am missing, is there any part where she has to relate her relation to me.

I Don't Think So. They'll pull up the Co-sponsors details from his/her SSN when & if they Run It.

If the Co-Sponsor is just sponsoring you, then I think YES

Anybody can be your Co-sponsor. Cause the responsibilty that the Co-sponsor is admitting to is too huge to be somebody who doesn't know you well enough.

You should include proof that your cosponsor is eligible (example: Bio page of US passport, copy of US birth certificate, copy of green card) to be your sponsor.
