Maybe the newer energy forms require maintenance to keep up the mechanical efficiency at full peak. The efficiency of interest when it comes to energy deals more with (maximal) efficient utilization of raw materials at low to no pollution byproducts.

I think it will just take more people to care the billions of hampsters needed run the new plants.

Perhaps. Or people riding stationary bikes. Cut health care costs that way too.

Do you have to clean solar panels often to keep them at peak efficiency or does that matter much? Windmills probably breakdown too I guess. Will there be a need for as many Windmill mechanics as we currently have coal miners? Does I.T.T offer a course in Windmill maintenance?

I guess those would be alternative energy sources... not new ones.

But solar panels do lose efficiency when covered with [name your cover- dirt, grime, etc]. Less photons hitting the collectors.

Again... the point is looking at new sources... not alternative ones that don't yield as much power.

Wishing you ten-fold that which you wish upon all others.

All I'm saying is that it's not going to "boost" the economy, like Obama is saying.

Energy is not something that is needed for its own sake. Making energy more expensive

and stealing jobs from other sectors of the economy to make it work is not a smart strategy.

Just look at Saudi Arabia to see what a pure energy-producing economy looks like.

Perhaps it is the case that what Obama is saying is something different than making the US a pure energy-producing economy. ¿? We'll see.

Yes. Dust, dirt, mold, and other contaminates, as well as something as simple as vegetation shading a small percentage of the panel, can degrade performance. Panels typically lose up to 15% of their peak power in the first year, and continue to deteriorate over their lifetime. After ten to twenty years, a panel may lose 50% or more of it's rated output.

We need Keanu's bubble Fusion reactor. But again, there's no jobs in that if that its going to be that efficient. You can't revive the economy without more jobs. You put all those coal miners out of work, they have to go somewhere. No...stick to the Windmill fields and hampster feeders.

Didn't that movie end in some facility blowing up due to the reactor getting blowed-up?

Heck... nuclear power employs people.

I'm sure when fusion comes online it will be somewhat similar. And due to the much cheaper availability of energy we'd be talking about a whole new set of industries and markets opening up due to much reduced overhead costs.

Thats true. We could be building passenger ships for affordable vacations on Mars or sightseeing trips around Saturn.
