I'm reading a history book called, "Small Things Forgotten". It is primarily an historical archeaology book. Many people within the Massachusetts Bay Colony, Plymouth, Virgina, Rhode Island, Connecticut colonies received financial assistance by the communities. This was in the 17th through the 18th century. (1600s-1700s). Slaves who got freedom also received financial assistance.

There's no way in hell that the welfare state started after the USA. No way!
