:D Forever just means longer and there are talks of when we gray we may retire here.

Hurghada is cooler in temperature than Cairo and some other parts. It's been in the 90's and 100's but it's summer. I have a/c in one room and I adapt.

If you scroll down in this link and look under Climate you can see the average temperature for Hurghada year round doesn't normally reach 100. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurghada#cite...e-MSN_Weather-0

For 5 months out of the year it's in the 90's to 100's the rest of the year it's in the 70's and 80's.

I am working in Merghany area in Heliopolis Cairo. Do you know it?

Sorry I meant what kind of work do you do abroad more than location. :P

Olivia- loved the pix! The sea looks so beautiful!! God I would do anything for a vacation :( Have fun for me sis.

(F) Do you get a long weekend for the 4th of July too? Maybe take a short trip somewhere and get out for a bit? I was thinking to buy a little American flag and wave it around in the streets on the 4th while lighting some of the local street vendor fireworks. :P

wow thats not the egypt i ever imagined. it looks very nice there. i expect to see everything very old.

It's not the Egypt I've ever seen either! I'm jealous!!! My Egypt experience (cairo and alex) had trash everywhere, you could barely see the sky from the smog, I couldn't see the water in Alex because there were so many thousands of people, etc. etc.

I suggested to Usama that we live in Hurgada when we retire and he said he hates it. I have no idea why. I'll have to ask him tonight. :)

BTW it's like ten thousand degrees in this office today and I'm dying! We have a war going on with the peeps on the opposite side of our cubbie row. They're freezing and we're hot. I say we switch sides and see how that works out.

I asked two mothers in their mid to late 50's how they survived their daughters being teenagers. One suggested I hit the liquor store and buy a minimum of a 48oz bottle each night and the other hinted that "mother's little helper" wasn't some made up verse in the song.:rofl::rofl:

^ Oh yeah we have all that too in parts. Trash, stray animals, poor begging women holding their babies. But mostly the area is developing and there are things being built everywhere. Not sure how it will look in a few years. It's not as crowded as Alex. The tourists here are mainly european where as the tourist in Alex are mainly gulf arabs. Hurghada gets a bad rap for sexual tourism and being more Westernized then other parts of Egypt so things like Ramadan are some what lost here and you'll see way less modest clothing on the foreigners then anywhere else except for maybe Sharm.

I miss the sea :( I dunno....Hurghada, Sharm, or even for me Mexico (Sea of Cortez)....I adore them all! :P I actually love the fact that its more comfortable when walking around than in Cairo or Alex for a Westerner. We plan on taking our friends/family to both places when we have our "big trip" back with the kids in a few year. I just think if its your first visit to Egypt with friends/family (not just for marriage or to settle down, etc.) first the pyramids and some historical sight seeing, then Hurghada and Sharm are the place to be! Beaches, sun and relaxation are my key needs when vacationing!

I understand how some point fingers at the more open lifestyle...however the draw for many to live there is the MONEY! If you want to make a decent living ... many need to go there to work...there isn't much choice in the matter especially for males who want to marry or own flats in the future. Cairo and Alex just don't pay the salaries that they can make in tips alone in Hurghada or Sharm. Okay and perhaps meet a European girl and marry her could be another draw too...:P

We have several friends who have left Cairo for this very reason. We have a friend of ours who is managing/DJ's at the Buddah Bar in Hurghada....he was at Latex in Cairo for a long while but accepted the role in Hurghada for more money/better accomodations. And two others are dancing and entertaining at two European hotel chains because the pay was just something they could not turn down. Many frown at the thought of living there or vacationing there but when I inquire why...some have never visited and only heard stories (duh!) and others pretty much judge everything that is "out of the norm" for them.

Oh well...:D Can't win them all!

They are lucky to have you!!!

Is there some sort of survival book for moms of super hormonal teenage girls? Like maybe a real good one that would prevent the mom from desiring to jump off a bridge after a 5 hour mood-swing black hole pit of doom session? I'm open to suggestions and so is my husband.

Thanks for the birth control!!!
