Yup.. have had it since I was a child although it was only recently (in the last decade) diagnosed as such. I find that if I stay hydrated, stay away from greasy foods and foods containing MSG, I can go weeks/months without an attack.

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

Thankfully no... but since she got to the US, my wife has had "gas" super bad! Complains of not being able to go. Got her some fiber tablets yesterday to see if they help.

I bet she'll be happy to know you just shared that with us hhahaha.

I had a bout of it years ago. I know it was triggered by stress. Have you been tested for Crohn's disease? There seems to be link between our immune system going haywire and an absense of intestinal parasites which humans have been infested with for thousands of years until fairly recently with our cleaner lifestyles.

Interesting

Those who do suffer it can you please answer a question for me from your experiences?

Are you subject at times to intense upper abdominal pain?

See my daughter has been diagnosed with this and I've not found any resources stating the pain can be that intense yet at least one one occassion she has frightened me quite badly because of the level of pain she was experiencing.

I'm suspicious of IBS - its not strictly a medical condition, encompassing as it does a whole range of disorders. A lot of it is apparently psychological, stress related - but I think its a little disturbing how doctors seem content to attribute a wide range of symptoms with a syndrome that has no concrete medical foundation.

Personally I think a lot of IBS is actually caused by undiagnosed allergies and food intolerances.

Yes I would have to agree with you. I have known a lot of people diasgnosed with IBS, and they all worked through cutting out possible foods that may cause their discomfort. It has always worked in the cases I am familiar with.

My husband has suffered for years, but never really did anything about it. When I moved here his diet changed, as I am a Vegan and do all the cooking!

The pattern seems to be that if he ever goes back to eating cheese (he has a particular soft spot for cottage cheese!) or other heavy dairy foods he feels the symptoms again. So now he sees that he watches what he eats more carefully and now feels fine for the majority of the time.

For me I think the problem is wheat (and sugar) - a number of my relatives have an allergy to wheat and there is a hereditary condition on my dad's side of the family (chronic heartburn, and stomach ulcers).

Couldn't be something easy to eliminate could it....?

hmm yeah wheat allergies can be a pain. I had an ex back in the UK with a severe wheat allergy. He had to strictly watch everything he ate. Although that was a fair few years ago, and I think its probably easier now. You can find a lot of wheat free products on the market, especially in health food stores. And cooking without wheat is not too hard either. I rarely use it when making meals.
