My wife went to county office and turned in our signed marriage certificate, and was told that we can not take it back today, it will be at least 1-2 weeks for them to mail to us. Then she paid $6 for a copy of it, and was told we mail it for AOS package. is it normal ? I have heard people get it back on the same day. Also for I-130 and I-485 we need two certified copy of marriage certificates, but we only paid one. can we make copies of that one? They stamped something on the copy, I don't know if it is so called the "certified" copy.

PHOTOCOPIES are fine.

USCIS no longer routinely requires submission of original documents or "certified copies." Instead, ordinary legible photocopies of such documents (including naturalization certificates and alien registration cards) will be acceptable for initial filing and approval of petitions and applications.

I received my marriage certificate in the mail too, after a few days from marriage. In our case the Justice of Peace took the license at clerk office, and they sent us the marriage certificate that we paid for it when we went to take the marriage license. I sent just copies at AOS, no certificated copy and was good.

Good luck!

You dont need to attach certified copies for the I-130 and I-485. Photo-copies are fine. Thats what I did and am about to appear for my interview. You need a certified copy for the interview. I went to the Cityclerk's office and got mine in 10 minutes. The cashier printed it out in front of me. I did have to fill in a form though. They should be handing it to you the same day. Best of luck.
