Probably, but disrespect is not a crime. A fine and/or community service is enough for something like this. Now if he did it again maybe 30 days in jail would be appropriate.

I have a problem with the hate crime nonsense, why is an action against one group more of a crime than if it's done against another group.

What is the difference between someone painting racist words on someone's Garaqe and this. These are hate crimes and these people should fry. Community service is not enough. Maybe he shouldn't go to jail, but he needs to be pubilically humilated.

If he does simply get a fine and community service, I hope that he has to do his community service within the muslim community. It appears there are a few thousand somali refugees in the community. There is always a need for more help with refugee services.

These kinds of events do a lot more damage then simply some pig juice on the carpet. It makes people afraid. We had an arsonist hit our masjid and islamic school in 04. It didn't do a lot of damage, but it sure as hell frightened the cr@p out of the community for weeks.

I also wanted to add that this is more akin to burning a cross on someone's lawn than some simple damage to property. It sends a message that you're not welcome.
