Hi vj family,

I want to share with you guys my happiness, I just got my welcome letter!!! Now waiting for the green card on the mail!!

I have a question, is this letter valid to apply for the Social Security Card??????, Anyone here that have done that before???? , I never got my EAD so, I havent gone there to aply yet.

SSA needs you to show them evidence that you are work authorized, the letter may not be enough, they may want to see a green-card or EAD card.

Also it can take USCIS 2 weeks or more after residency approval before this is updated on the database used by SSA to confirm residency status, so even if you get green-card in a few days, they may tell you that they cannot issue a number until they can confirm.

Did the IO stamp your passpport with a temporary I-551 after your interview? I think u can use that to apply for SSN.

No they did not, they said when I would get the welcome letter I have to make an infopass and go and get my passport sigh, and I got the appoiment, but it is for july 14, which means more waiting!

Well i guess you really have to wait for your passport or greencard before you can apply for SSN. After my AOS interview my passport was stamped and i got it on the same day.
