I have been hearing a lot about this movie this week and I just have one question that is irking me .... what is the proper pronunciation of the word "Caribbean"????

Is it CaribbEEEEEEEan or CarIIIIIIbean ????

Curry-Bean ;)

 southern style

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

We went to see it yesterday afternoon. It was okay but not as good as the first one. I agree with the review who said it was trying too hard - you enjoy it but it's like 'we're going to MAKE you like this movie whether you want to or not'. The special effects were great, but while I was watching it I was thinking 'gee, what cool CGI' when really you're supposed to be too caught up in the story to even notice that you're watching something 'not real'.

Caveat - we did not get to stay till the end of the movie - my husband got paged halfway through and we had to leave during the scene at the Inn when they're trying to enlist new crewmembers... John said we could go back tomorrow to see it again so we could see how it ended, but I had to say that I don't really care about it enough to want to pay them another thirty bucks (tickets, drinks, snack and valet parking)... so we're not going to go back. I'd rather wait for it to come out on pay-per-view and pay them four bucks. Unless of course we missed something truly great in the last hour of the movie...

It was ok, but exhibits the same problem that you see in a lot of movie sequels. The temptation with financial success is to provide more of the same - invariably jettisoning the storytelling values that made the original a success.

The story wasn't compelling enough to carry a 2 1/2 hour movie. Lot of bloat there I thought...

With the cliffhanger ending it's a bit of a cheat - seeing that you now have to wait until next summer to see part 3. At least with the Matrix sequels, as dire as they were - were released a few months apart.

oh, and stay seated until the very end of the credits :)

We just got back from seeing it; we enjoyed it for what it was, and neither of us had the expectation it would be as good as the first. All in all we don't regret doing it (I really do like Johnny Depp as a pirate!).

I had been avoiding this thread in case of spoilers...and didn't see this note to stay seated. Anyone care to PM me with what was at the end?

Thanks!

Just got back from the show. I must say it was well worth the $6 bargain matinee price :P

I had to put my foot down and insist on staying for the credits. (Thanks you guys for the heads' up !) Mahmoud was itching to go after 2 and a half hours... "I want to SMOOOOOOKE" but in the end he was glad he stayed for that final little "bonus."

I'm reading the reviews and I'm not seeing much good.....but I LOVE Captain Jack.....am I gonna be disappointed?

Possibly, maybe even particularly in the character of Jack. Johnny Depp has fleshed out the role in a far less whimsical direction. I was quite disappointed in the changes in the character.

They also introduced too many new characters - too many plot threads floating around without being fully developed.

What bugged me, is that they basically erased all the character development from the first movie.

And that Voodoo Lady was right out of SMI-2.

Apparently she is supposed to return in a much larger role in the next sequel, so they were just "introducing" her character here.

I thought her performance was wayyyyy too "over the top" (and that's quite a feat in a movie that's supposed to be "over the top" !) She looked like she was hurting her facial muscles trying to over-enunciate the "Jamaican" accent. But maybe that was caused by the metal teeth caps.

Rather like the 'Oracle Lady' in the Matrix - who spouted out a bunch of philosophical ####### while trying to sound mysterious.
